 BE QUEER in Palermo next June (1st to 7th): join the second "Sicilia Queer filmfest" !

The etymology of the word “queer” includes both the concepts of transversality and diversity. Therefore, the word “queer” refers not only to GLBT issues (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) in the strict sense, but to everything that can be considered out, different, divergent. Today, more than ever, it is necessary  to disseminate a culture increasingly oriented to inclusion and socialization, and to share different ideas and lifestyles.

SICILIA QUEER filmfest (the second edition taking place in Palermo, from the 1st to the 7th June 2012) arises from these considerations.

It is the first and only international queer film festival in Sicily.

It aims, through film and audiovisuals, to go against any kind of social discrimination, to support the culture of diversity (sexual orientation, lifestyles and way of thinking, etc.), and to raise a greater awareness of the positive contribution coming from the differences.

By now, we’re working on the “construction” of the next festival, which will be performed on June 2012, and on the many permanent activities (film screenings, photo exhibitions, book presentations, educational programs) that we will disseminate throughout the months preceeding the festival itself.We’ll keep you informed on this website. But give a look to our Facebook page (and don't forget to become a fan), from time to time!
Besides those of the upcoming second edition, there’s another date to be saved by now: the submission deadline for the entries to QUEER SHORT, the international short film competition of SICILIA QUEER filmfest 2012: send your queer short films by February the 29th, 2012 !

Last but not least, SUPPORT THE FESTIVAL, which is an independent and self-financed organization - the only one queer-culture international event in whole Sicily - making a free generous donation through the Pay-Pal window on the left, or becoming a precious Queer-Supporter asking for a QueerCard by clicking here!
