THE AWARDS OF THE 2011 INTERNATIONAL SHORTFILM COMPETITION "QUEER SHORT" have been decerned by the INTERNATIONAL JURY of the SICILIA QUEER FILMFEST composed by:

- Best short film:AFTER by Mark Pariselli (Canada)
Without dialogues, the Director tells us a contemporary story, highly visual, about gay male youth ‘s approach on desire, passion, love and obsession.
- Best low-budget short film: TWO BEDS by Kanako Wynkoop (USA)
The film puts his fingers deep into the wound by posing the question: if we finally reach emancipation, we'll be all spoilt kids?
- Special Jury Award to: FROM MOMENT TO MOMENT (Italia) by FulvioPerna.
The jury particularly appreciated the way Carla defines anarchically the term “star”, and thus gives the Jury award to FROM MOMENT TO MOMENT by Fulvio Perna.
THE OTHER JURIES:
Il Coordinamento Palermo Pride ha scelto di premiare "MASALA MAMA" di Michael Kam (Singapore, 2010), che con i suoi colori e la sua gioiosa ironia riesce a parlare di omosessualità senza mettere in scena necessariamente la costruzione (o distruzione) di una coppia o di un contesto familiare in senso tradizionale, preferendo invece mostrare come un personaggio omosessuale possa diventare un simbolo ed un esempio positivo per un bambino... il cui orientamento sessuale non è al centro dell'attenzione del regista. Per tutti questi motivi "Masala Mama" è, per il Coordinamento Palermo Pride, il più coraggiosamente Queer tra i corti in concorso.
Dedichiamo infine una menzione al corto "WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?", girato e prodotto a Palermo da Maurilio Mangano nel 2011: e non per campanilismo, bensì perché, nella sua efficace brevità, è lo spot che tutte/i avremmo voluto veder realizzato dal Ministero delle Pari Opportunità contro l'Omofobia.
With simplicity, freshness and precision it shows us how children are able to distinguish and recognize NATURALLY what is good and what is wrong and how they don’t know and are uninterested to what that the CULTURE of certain adults stigmatizes as diversity. The child’s gaze becomes writing: clear, basic but effective. Then the word infantile melts in a gesture, the embrace, to become a ghostly sign.
