PRESENTAZIONE

Claire Simon è una regista francese nata a Londra. Formatasi inizialmente come montatrice, ha realizzato cortometraggi di finzione. Nei prestigiosi Ateliers Varan studia il cosiddetto direct cinema, corrente documentaristica nata nel Nord America a metà del secolo scorso (1952- 1964) e resa celebre in Francia da Jean Rouch. Di questo periodo sono i film Les patients (1989), Coûte que coûte (1995) e Récréations (1998) che vengono selezionati in numerosi festival cinematografici, regalandole non pochi premi e che vengono distribuiti in sala. Nel 1997 il suo primo lungometraggio di finzione Sinon, oui è presentato alla Quinzaine des Réalisateurs durante il Festival di Cannes. Tre anni dopo è il turno di Ça, c'est vraiment toi (2000) con cui vince il Gran Premio al Belfort Film Festival. Pensato per la televisione, il film le permetterà di sperimentare l’ibridazione tra documentario e film di finzione. Dopo una breve parentesi teatrale ritorna al documentario: 800 km de différence – Romance (2002) e Mimi (2003) che sarà presentato al Festival di Berlino. Nel 2006 e nel 2008, Claire Simon torna al Festival di Cannes, di nuovo nella sezione Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, rispettivamente con Ça brûle, suo secondo lungometraggio di finzione, e Les Bureaux de Dieu, dove ripropone il mélange tra documentario e finzione. Con Gare du Nord (2013) Claire Simon firma il suo terzo, ed al momento ultimo, lungometraggio di finzione. Affascinata dall’universo contenuto nella stazione, durante le riprese di Gare du Nord gira un documentario parallelo, Géographie humaine (2013). Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015), presentato a Palermo durante la sesta edizione del Sicilia Queer Filmfest è stato considerato dalla prestigiosa rivista Cahiers du Cinéma tra i dieci film più belli dell’anno. Le Concours (2016), documentario sulle prove d’ammissione a La Fémis, è il suo ultimo lungometraggio e ha vinto il Leone d’Oro Premio Venezia Classici per il Miglior Documentario Sul Cinema alla 73esima edizione della Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia.

BANDO DI PARTECIPAZIONE WORKSHOP con CLAIRE SIMON

SICILIA QUEER FILMFEST 2017

Art. 1 - Contenuti e obiettivi del workshop

L’associazione culturale Sicilia Queer, in collaborazione con l’Institut français di Palermo, indice il bando di selezione per la partecipazione al workshop teorico-pratico con la regista Claire Simon, che avrà luogo a Palermo dal 2 al 9 giugno 2017. L’evento si propone di dare un’occasione di incontro a tutte le persone interessate a conoscere il metodo di lavoro di una delle più importanti registe del panorama cinematografico internazionale, un momento di scambio e di confronto utile a una crescita culturale e a un arricchimento professionale A conclusione del workshop, i partecipanti svilupperanno e realizzeranno un prodotto cinematografico sotto la supervisione della regista Claire Simon sul tema della paura. Art. 2 – Organizzazione didattica del workshop

Il workshop avrà la durata di 1 (una) settimana (dal 2 al 9 giugno 2017) e vi saranno ammessi n.12 (dodici) studenti di cui n. 6 (sei) residenti a Palermo . Nell’arco della settimana sono previste n. 30 ore di attività seminariale che alternerà teoria e prassi, come dettagliatamente riportato di seguito all’interno del programma, finalizzate alla realizzazione di un prodotto cinematografico, frutto dello scambio tra gli studenti e la regista. Il workshop prevede inoltre una serie di proiezioni serali di alcuni titoli della regista con seguente dibattito e incontro con il pubblico cittadino. Il workshop si svolgerà in vari spazi della città di Palermo, che verranno precisati più avanti. L’ospitalità sarà a carico dei partecipanti al workshop. Il Sicilia Queer filmfest si premurerà di indicare ai partecipanti alcune strutture convenzionate.

Art. 3 – Requisiti di partecipazione al workshop

Per partecipare al workshop è requisito necessario quello di possedere un dispositivo per l’acquisizione video (telecamera, reflex, smartphone, etc.) ed un computer che permetta di gestire le varie fasi dell’elaborato audiovisivo. Non è previsto un limite d’età per i partecipanti. Non sono necessarie conoscenze cinematografiche dal momento che il workshop si concentrerà principalmente sulla narrazione cinematografica e la relazione tra documentario e fiction. Sarà necessaria la conoscenza della lingua inglese (livello B2) e apprezzata la conoscenza della lingua francese.

Art. 4 - Modalità di ammissione e documentazione per l’iscrizione

Per partecipare bisogna compilare il form di pre-iscrizione online al seguente indirizzo entro e non oltre le ore 12 del 15 aprile 2017.

La lista degli ammessi al workshop sarà pubblicata dal 24 aprile 2017 all’interno del sito del Sicilia Queer filmfest e sulla nostra pagina Facebook.

Gli ammessi al workshop dovranno pagare una quota di partecipazione di euro 250,00 (duecentocinquanta,00) da effettuare tramite bonifico entro e non oltre il 30 aprile 2017.

 Art. 5 – Criteri di valutazione

Le richieste saranno selezionate seguendo i seguenti criteri:

• Coerenza del percorso artistico del richiedente
• Validità e coerenza della lettera motivazionale
• Competenze essenziali per avere autonomia tecnica nell’ambito del workshop
• Valore artistico dei precedenti lavori del richiedente

I giudizi del comitato di selezione relativi all’ammissione dei partecipanti sono insindacabili. Il comitato di selezione è composto da Eric Biagi (direttore dell’Institut français Palermo), Andrea Inzerillo (direttore artistico del Sicilia Queer filmfest) e Stefano Savona (regista).

Art. 6 – Pubblicità e comunicazione

Il presente bando avrà ampia diffusione attraverso i canali di comunicazione del Sicilia Queer filmfest e dei partner che collaborano alla realizzazione dell’evento.

Art. 7 – Privacy

Il consenso del partecipante al trattamento dei dati personali da parte dei soggetti promotori è manifestato mediante la sottoscrizione del presente modulo. I dati anagrafici rilasciati all’atto della partecipazione saranno trattati a norma del D.lgs. 196/2003 (Codice in materia di protezione dei dati personali detto anche «Codice privacy») e modifiche e aggiunte successive. Il rilascio, ad opera dei partecipanti, dei propri dati anagrafici equivarrà ad implicita autorizzazione di questi alla pubblicazione del proprio nome e cognome laddove la commissione lo ritenga necessario.

Art. 8 – Proprietà

Gli elaborati prodotti durante il workshop, frutto della collaborazione tra gli studenti e la regista, si riterranno di proprietà dei loro autori. L’Associazione Culturale Sicilia Queer potrà in ogni caso utilizzarli per scopi non commerciali all’interno di proiezioni sia pubbliche che private.

Art. 9 – Attestato di partecipazione

A conclusione del workshop verrà rilasciato dall’Associazione Culturale Sicilia Queer un attestato di partecipazione all’evento.

Claire Simon

Claire Simon is a French director born in London. She starts her career as an editor, also directing short fiction films. At the prestigious Ateliers Varan she comes into close contact with the direct cinema’s movement, originated in North America in the 50s (1952-1964) and developed in France by Jean Rouch. Her first works from this period include Les patients (1989), Coûte que coûte (1995) and Récréations (1998), which gained wide recognition in several cinema festivals and were distributed in theaters. In 1997, her first feature film Sinon, oui was screened at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs during the Cannes Film Festival. Three years later she directs Ça, c'est vraiment toi (2000), winning the Belfort Film Festival Grand Prix: starting out as a television project, the movie provides a first opportunity to explore the hybridisation between documentary and fiction. After a short period spent working in theatrical productions, the French director presents two documentaries: 800 km de différence – Romance (2002) and Mimi (2003) which was presented at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2006 and 2008, Claire Simon returns to Cannes, introducing two new films at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs: respectively Ça brûle, her second feature film, and Les Bureaux de Dieu, where she once again makes use of her own characteristic mélange between fiction and documentary. With Gare du Nord (2013) Claire Simon signs her third and last fiction feature film so far. Fascinated by the whole universe encountered within the train station, she directs a parallel documentary, Géographie humaine (2013), during the shooting of Gare du Nord. Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015), listed amongst the best ten movies of the year by the prestigious magazine Cahiers du Cinéma, was screened in Palermo during the sixth edition of the Sicilia Queer filmfest. Le Concours (2016) is her most recent work about the admission tests to La Fémis and won the Golden Lion Award as Venice Classics Best Documentary at the 73th edition of the Venice Film Festival.

SICILIA QUEER FILMFEST 2017

Art. 1 – Workshop content and objectives

The Sicilia Queer cultural association, in collaboration with l’Institut français – Palermo, is announcing a call for applications for the selection of participants to the practical and theoretical workshop to be held by director Claire Simon, in Palermo between the 2nd and 9th of June 2017. The objective of the workshop is to provide an opportunity to know and experience the personal approach of one of the most prominent directors of the European cinematographic panorama, an occasion for exchange and discussion useful to the cultural growth and professional enrichment of each participant. Before the end of the workshop, participants will have the chance to develop a short movie investigating the theme of fear, under the supervision of director Claire Simon.

Art 2 – Workshop teaching organisation

The workshop will last one week (from the 2nd of June until the 9th of June 2017) and 12 (twelve) students will be accepted, 6 (six) of whom must be resident in Palermo. The week will consist of 30 hours of laboratory activity, alternating theoretical and practical activities as described in detail further in this program. At the end of the week, a short movie will be produced thanks to the collaboration between students and director. The workshop will also include a series of evening screenings of a selection of movies by Claire Simon, followed by discussions and meetings with the audience. The workshop will take place in several areas of Palermo, to be specified as the start date draws nearer. Participants must see to their own accommodation needs, considering that the Sicilia Queer filmfest will make agreements with local facilities to provide suitable lodging.

Art. 3 – Workshop Participation Requirements

Participants to the workshop must bring their own video equipment (e.g. camera, DSLR, smartphone) and a personal computer to handle the different phases of the audiovisual elaboration. There will be no age limit. There are no specific requirements regarding prior filming experience, as the main focus of the workshop will be on cinematographic narration and the relationship between documentary and fiction. A good level of English (B2) is mandatory, and a good level of French is an added value, but not essential.

Art. 4 - Admission procedures and documentation for entry

Art. 5 – Evaluation criteria

Applications will be selected according to the following criteria:

• Coherence of the applicant’s artistic path
• Validity and coherence of the applicant’s motivational letter
• Essential technical knowledge required for autonomy during the workshop
• Artistic value of the applicant’s previous works

All the decisions of the selection committee concerning the admission of participants are final. The selection committee consists of Eric Biagi (director of the Institut français Palermo), Andrea Inzerillo (artistic director of Sicilia Queer filmfest), Stefano Savona (director).

Art. 6– Advertising and communication

This call for applications will be publicized widely by Sicilia Queer filmfest and its partners collaborating to the workshop.

Art. 7 – Privacy

Applicants’ consent to the processing of personal data by the promoters is expressed by signing the application form. Any personal data released at the time of participation will be processed in accordance with Legislative Decree no. 196/2003. The release, by the participants, of their personal data will imply authorisation to publish their names and surnames where the committee deems it necessary.

Art. 8 - Property

The workshop final outcomes, created in collaboration between the students and the director, will remain property of the authors. The Sicilia Queer cultural association may still freely use them for non-commercial purposes if needed, both in public and private screenings.

Art. 9 – Certificate of attendance

At the end of the workshop, a certificate of attendance will be released to all participants by the Sicilia Queer cultural association.

Claire Simon

Réalisatrice française née à Londres, Claire Simon  suit d’abord une formation de monteuse, tout en réalisant des courts métrages de fiction. Aux Ateliers Varan, elle étudie le cinéma direct, courant du documentaire né aux Etats Unis dans la seconde moitié du 20ème siècle (1952-1964), et rendu célèbre en France grâce à Jean Rouch. Les patients (1989), Coûte que coûte (1995) et Récréations (1998) sont sélectionnés dans plusieurs festivals de cinéma où ils reçoivent de nombreux prix et sortent en salle. En 1997, son premier long-métrage, Sinon, oui, est présenté à la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs du Festival de Cannes. Trois ans plus tard, Ca, c'est vraiment toi (2000) remporte le grand prix documentaire et fiction du Festival du Film de Belfort. Conçu pour la télévision, ce film lui permettra d'expérimenter une forme hybride, entre documentaire et fiction. Après une brève parenthèse théâtrale, elle renoue avec le documentaire : 800km de différence-Romance (2002) et Mimi (2003) qui sera présenté au festival de Berlin. En 2006 et 2008, Claire Simon retourne au festival de Cannes, à la Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, d’abord avec Ça brûle, son second long-métrage de fiction, puis avec Les bureaux de Dieu, avec lequel elle propose de nouveau un mélange entre documentaire et fiction. Avec Gare du Nord (2013), Claire Simon signe à ce jour son dernier long-métrage de fiction. Fascinée par l'univers de la gare, elle tourne en parallèle durant le tournage de Gare du Nord un documentaire, Géographie humaine (2013). Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015), présenté à Palerme lors de la sixième édition du Sicilia Queer filmfest, fait partie de la liste des dix plus beaux films de l’année de la revue Les Cahiers du Cinéma. Son dernier long-métrage, Le Concours (2016), récit sur le concours d’entrée à La Fémis, a remporté le Lion d'Or comme meilleur documentaire Venezia Classici à la 73ème édition du Festival International du Film de Venise.

APPEL À PARTICIPATION AU WORKSHOP CLAIRE SIMON

SICILIA QUEER FILMFEST 2017

Art.1 – Contenus et objectifs du workshop

L'association culturelle Sicilia Queer, en collaboration avec l'Institut français de Palerme, lance un appel à candidatures pour la participation au workshop pratique et théorique avec la réalisatrice Claire Simon, qui aura lieu du 2 au 9 Juin 2017 à Palerme. L'évènement offre l'occasion de connaître la méthode de travail d'une des plus importantes réalisatrices du cinéma international, un moment d'échange et de confrontation pour un enrichissement aussi bien culturel que personnel. À la fin du workshop, les participants auront développé et réalisé une production cinématographique sous la supervision de la réalisatrice Claire Simon sur le thème de la peur.

Art.2 – Organisation didactique du workshop

Le workshop durera une semaine (du 2 au 9 juin 2017). 12 étudiants y participeront, dont 6 provenant de Palerme. 30 heures d'activités alternant pratique et théorie sont prévues dans la semaine (cf. programme détaillé), aux termes desquelles les participants réaliseront  une production cinématographique, fruit de leur échange avec la réalisatrice. Le workshop prévoit par ailleurs une série de projections qui permettront de découvrir certains films de la réalisatrice et seront suivies de débats et de rencontres avec le public. Le workshop se déroulera dans différents lieux de Palerme, qui seront précisés par la suite. L'hébergement sera à la charge des participants du workshop. Le Sicilia Queer filmfest fournira aux participants une liste de structures d’accueil conventionnées avec le festival.

Art.3 – Conditions de participation au workshop

Les participants devront être en possession d’un dispositif d’enregistrement vidéo (appareil photo, caméra, smartphone etc.) et d'un ordinateur qui permettra de gérer les différents phases de l'élaboration du projet. Aucune limite d'âge n’est prévue pour l'inscription. Des connaissances cinématographiques ne sont pas requises, puisque le workshop sera principalement centré sur la narration cinématographique et sur le rapport entre documentaire et fiction. La maîtrise de l'anglais est obligatoire (niveau B2), celle du français appréciée.

Art.4 – Modalités d'admission et documents à présenter pour l'inscription

Art.5 – Critères de sélection

Les demandes seront évaluées selon les critères suivants :

• Cohérence du parcours artistique du candidat
• Pertinence et cohérence de la lettre de motivation
• Compétences pour avoir une autonomie technique au sein du workshop
• Valeur artistique des précédents travaux du candidat

La décision de la commission de sélection relative à l'admission des participants sera sans appel.

La commission de sélection est composée par Eric Biagi (directeur de l'Institut français de Palerme), Andrea Inzerillo (directeur artistique du Sicilia Queer filmfest) et Stefano Savona (réalisateur).

Art.6 – Publicité et communication

Cet appel sera diffusé à travers les différents canaux de communication du Sicilia Queer filmfest et de ses partenaires, qui collaborent à la réalisation de cet événement.

Art.7 – Privacy

À travers le formulaire de pré-inscription, les participants autorisent le traitement de leurs données personnelles par les organisateurs. Les données personnelles seront traitées conformément à la réglementation italienne en matière de protection des données personnelles du décret législatif du 30 juin 2003 (D. Lgs. 30 giugno 2003), n. 196 (Codice in materia di protezione dei dati personali dit également « Codice Privacy ») et ses modifications et ajouts successifs. En communiquant leurs données personnelles aux organisateurs, les participants autorisent la publication de leurs noms et prénoms selon les exigences de la commission.

Art.8 – Droits d'auteur

Les travaux réalisés durant le workshop, issus de la collaboration entre la réalisatrice et les participants, seront implicitement propriétés de leurs auteurs. L'Association Culturelle Sicilia Queer pourra cependant en garder une copie et les utiliser à des fins non commerciales pour des projections aussi bien publiques que privées.

Art.9 – Attestation de participation

Au terme du workshop, une attestation de participation sera délivrée par l'Association Sicilia Queer et l'Institut français de Palerme.
