Elle Reid è una vecchia poetessa lesbica che sta ancora metabolizzando la recente morte della sua compagna di una vita. Dopo la fine della relazione di quattro mesi con Olivia, una sua giovane ammiratrice, riceve un'inaspettata visita da Sage, sua nipote diciottenne. La ragazza ha bisogno di 630$ per abortire entro il tramonto o la sua vita sarà rovinata per sempre. Elle però non ha il becco di un quattrino e la dispotica madre di Sage ha bloccato alla ragazza la carta di credito. Come farà quindi Elle a trovare i soldi per ridare la libertà all'infelice nipotina? Le due donne si imbarcheranno in un road trip per risolvere i loro problemi, tra scheletri nell'armadio e segreti da tempo sepolti.
Elle Reid is an old lesbian poet still coping with the recent death of ther long-term life partner. After the end of the four month relation with Olivia, her younger admirer, she receives an unexpected visit by Sage, his eighteen years old granddaughter. The girl need 630$ to make an abortion before sundown or her life will be ruined forever. However, Ellen is broke and Sage's overbearing mother has blocked her credit card. How does Elle find the money to set her trouble grandbaby free? The two women will embark in a road trip to solve their problems, between rattling skeletons and buried secrets.

Nato a New York nel 1965, figlio dell'attrice Susan Kohner e nipote del famoso produttore Paul Kohner e dell'attrice Lupita Tovar, è un produttore, sceneggiatore, drammaturgo e regista americano. Debutta alla regia col cult American Pie (1999) che dirige col fratello Chris Weitz, anch'esso attivo regista e sceneggiatore hollywoodiano. È conosciuto per i film About a Boy (2002), diretto sempre col fratello, In Good Company (2004) e American Dreamz (2006). Grandma è il suo ultimo film, presentato nella serata di chiusura del Sundance Film Festival del 2015.
Born in New York City in 1965, son of the actress Susan Kohner and grandson of the famous producer Paul Kohner and the actress Lupita Tovar, is an American producer, screenwriter, playwright and director. He debuts as director with the cult movie American Pie (1999), directed with his brother Chris Weitz, also an active Hollywood director and screenwriter. He is known for his movies About a Boy (2002), still directed with his brother, In Good Company (2002) and American Dreamz (2006). Grandma is his last movie, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival as the closing night film.
