All’Opéra Garnier di Parigi una ballerina prova dei passi di danza sul palcoscenico mentre sullo sfondo scorre la storia di Sarah Winchester. Sarah Winchester è stata la ricca moglie del produttore d’armi americano famosissimo per l’invenzione della carabina Winchester ’77. Dopo la morte del marito, la giovane donna, oltre a ereditare la fortuna accumulata in tanti anni di vendite di armi, riceve in eredità i anche fantasmi del marito, quelli legati allo strumento di morte reso celebre dall’omonimo film di Anthony Mann. Il destino di follia di Sarah aggravato dalla morte della piccola figlia, si concretizzerà nella costruzione di una casa infinita, una metafora dell’inesauribile e folle corsa verso la frontiera degli Stati Uniti.

At the Opera house Palais Garnier in Paris, a ballerina is on the stage trying some dance steps while Sarah Winchester's story unfolds in the background. Sarah Winchester was the wealthy wife of the world famous American arms producer known for the invention of the Winchester '77 rifle. After her husband's death, the young woman, in addition to inheriting the fortune accumulated in so many years of arms sales, inherits her husband’s ghost, those linked to the death instrument made famous by the homonymous film of Anthony Mann. The fate of Sarah's madness, aggravated by the death of her young daughter, will materialize in the construction of an infinite house, a metaphor of the unbearable and crazy race towards the US border.

Bertrand Bonello realizza il suo primo lungometraggio, Quelque chose d'organique, nel 1998 presentato all’interno sezione Panorama del Festival di Berlino. Il suo secondo lavoro, Le pornographe, in cui Jean-Pierre Léaud interpreta il ruolo di un regista porno, partecipa alla Settimana Internazionale della Critica del Festival di Cannes, vincendo il Premio FIPRESCI. Le sue opere successive saranno tutte presentate al festival di Cannes negli anni successivi: nel 2003 in concorso con Tiresia, nel 2005 fuori concorso con il cortometraggio Cindy: The Doll Is Mine, nel 2008 alla Quinzaine des Réalisateurs con De la guerre, nel 2011 di nuovo in concorso con L'Apollonide (Souvenirs de la maison close), e nel 2014 con Saint Laurent, quest’ultimo ha chiuso la quinta edizione del Sicilia Queer filmfest.

Bertrand Bonello makes his first feature film Quelque choose d'organique, presented within the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival, in 1998. His second work, Le pornographe, where Jean-Pierre Léaud plays the role of a porn director, takes part in the International Cannes Film Critics Week, winning the FIPRESCI Prize. His following works will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the following years: in 2003, in competition with Tiresia, in 2005 with the short film Cindy: The Doll Is Mine, presented outside the competition, in 2008 at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs with De la guerre, in 2011 once again competing with L’Apollonide (Souvenirs de la maison close), and in 2014 with Saint Laurent, which closed the fifth edition of the Sicily Queer filmfest.
