In quel che resta della città di Jaffa, un uomo che sta per perdere la sua casa contempla il suo destino. Nel frattempo due donne rimangono legate alle loro case. Una di loro trova conforto nel prendersi cura dell’anziana madre, finché la sua casa non viene rilevata da una troupe cinematografica israeliana. L'altra si perde in sogni d'amore mentre realizza addobbi nuziali. In un bar vicino un vecchio capitano siede immobile tutto il giorno, mentre un altro uomo si muove irrequieto come un pesce in un acquario. Per questi personaggi palestinesi si tratta di uno stile di vita: aggrapparsi alla speranza attraverso i propri rituali.

In what is left of the city of Jaffa, a man about to lose his house contemplates his fate. Meanwhile two women remain tied to their homes. One finds solace taking care of her old mother, until her house is taken over by an Israeli film crew. The other immerses herself in dreams of love whilst making wedding decorations. In a nearby café, an old captain sits motionless the whole day through, while another man moves restless like a fish in an aquarium. For these Palestinian characters, this is a way of life: that of holding onto hope through their own rituals.

Kamal Aljafari, nato a Ramla nel 1972, si laurea in arti visive all'Accademia di Colonia. Esordisce nel 2003 con il cortometraggio Visit Iraq, che vince il premio del Sundance Documentary Fund. Il suo lavoro è stato mostrato in tutto il mondo a festival cinematografici come Berlinale, Locarno, Viennale e Rotterdam e musei come il MoMA e la Tate Modern. Ha insegnato regia alla New School di New York.

Kamal Aljafari, born in Ramla in 1972, graduated in visual arts from the Cologne Academy. He made his debut in 2003 with the short film Visit Iraq, which won the Sundance Documentary Fund award. His work has been shown around the world at film festivals such as Berlinale, Locarno, Viennale and Rotterdam and museums such as MoMA and Tate Modern. He taught directing at the New School in New York.
