C’è un uomo, che forse è un fantasma, che si aggira per una misteriosa e oscura città. Incontra uomini diversi, fa sesso, discute di chi è, del passato e del futuro. A ogni incontro, però, si presenta con un nome diverso, dice di fare un altro mestiere: ogni volta ad essere esibita è l’identità dell’amante precedente.
L’affascinante terzo lungometraggio del regista hongkonghese Jun Li è un paesaggio metropolitano che aspira all’intimità ma non riesce comunque mai ad afferrare pienamente il mistero del suo protagonista, vampiro di personalità, malinconica creatura capace di esistere solo in un frammentato mondo contemporaneo. E la tensione è opprimente, perché il vero interrogativo ricorrente è se quest’uomo, irriconoscibile se non per la sua ambiguità, possa legarsi davvero ad altri esseri umani.

There is a man, who is perhaps a ghost, who wanders around a mysterious and dark city. He meets different men, has sex, discusses who he is, the past and the future. At each meeting, however, he introduces himself with a different name, says he has a different job: each time the identity of the previous lover is exhibited.
The fascinating third feature film by Hong Kong director Jun Li is a metropolitan landscape that aspires to intimacy but still never fully manages to grasp the mystery of its protagonist, a vampire of personalities, a melancholic creature capable of existing only in a fragmented contemporary world. And the tension is oppressive, because the real recurring question is whether this man, unrecognizable except for his ambiguity, can truly bond with other human beings.

Nato nel 1991, ha studiato giornalismo alla Chinese University di Hong Kong e si è laureato in gender studies all’University of Cambridge. Il suo esordio, Tracey, è stato presentato in anteprima al Tokyo Film Festival nel 2018, per poi girare altri festival asiatici; il suo secondo è invece arrivato in Europa tramite l’anteprima a Rotterdam e l’anteprima italiana al Far East Film Festival di Udine. Approda alla Berlinale 2025 con Queerpanorama, sezione Panorama.

Born in 1991, he studied journalism at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and graduated in gender studies at the University of Cambridge. His debut film, Tracey, premiered at the Tokyo Film Festival in 2018, and then toured other Asian festivals; his second film arrived in Europe with a preview in Rotterdam and an Italian first screening at the Far East Film Festival in Udine. He lands at the Berlinale 2025, Panorama section, with Queerpanorama.
