L’umanità si avvia verso una pandemia che la sta facendo affondare nelle tenebre. Nel 2028 il piccolo Ruben suona alla porta dell’insegnante di storia Angela, per scoprire il passato dei suoi genitori, Fabiana e Claudio. Nel 2017 Rafaela, prodotto della fantasia di Angela, compie un viaggio alla scoperta della propria spiritualità prendendo ispirazione dai testi di Simone Weil. Nel 2038 l’ormai cresciuto Ruben rivive il passato dei suoi genitori mentre scopre, in una caverna, lo straordinario tesoro di un misterioso uomo di nome Telmo: modelli e statue che raccontano l’intera storia umana delle guerre.
La profetica trilogia di Pinto e Leonel, scritta prima dello scoppio dell’epidemia da Covid-19, viaggia in spazi siderali e riflessioni teologiche e linguistiche per scoprire il mistero che c’è fra il buio e la luce, e permettendo all’invisibile di rivelarsi come in una sequela di apparizioni mistiche.

Humankind is heading towards a pandemic that is making it sink into darkness. In 2028, little Ruben rings the doorbell of an history teacher named Angela, in order to discover the past of his parents, Fabiana and Claudio. In 2017, Rafaela, the product of Angela’s fantasy, takes a journey to discover her own spirituality, taking inspiration from the texts of Simone Weil. In 2038, the now grown-up Ruben relives his parents’ past while discovering, in a cave, the extraordinary treasure of a mysterious man named Telmo: models and statues that tell the entire human history of wars.
The prophetic trilogy by Pinto and Leonel, written before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, travels through sidereal spaces and theological and linguistic reflections to discover the mystery that lies between darkness and light, and allowing the invisible to reveal itself as in a series of mystical apparitions.

Originario di Porto, classe 1957, ha lavorato come tecnico del suono per importanti registi sia dentro che fuori dal Portogallo. Il suo primo film da regista, Uma pedra no bolso risale al 1988, mentre il secondo, Onde bate o sol, è datato 1989. Dalla fine degli Anni Novanta le regie dei suoi film (come E agora? Lembra-me, Rabo de Peixe, Pathos Ethos Logos) sono co-firmate dal partner e poi marito Nuno Leonel, e sono presentate in festival importanti come Berlino e Locarno.

Born in Porto in 1957, he worked as a sound engineer for important directors both inside and outside Portugal. In 1988 he made his first feature film, Tall Stories, and his second feature-length film, Where The Sun Beats, dates back to 1989. Since the end of the Nineties his directorial efforts (such as What Now? Remind Me, Fish Tail, Pathos Ethos Logos) are co-signed by his partner and then husband Nuno Leonel, and they were presented in important festivals like Berlin and Locarno.

Artista, grafico, animatore, tecnico del suono, regista, è nato nel 1969 e fin da giovanissimo ha lavorato in ambito musicale e cinematografico. La maggior parte dei suoi film sono co-firmati dal marito Joaquim Pinto, con cui ha realizzato, tra gli altri, documentari come Surfavela (1996), film d’animazione come Porca Miséria (2007) e film di finzione come Pathos Ethos Logos (2021).

Artist, graphic designer, animator, sound technician, director, he was born in 1969 and since his youth he has been involved in music and film jobs. Most of his movies are co-signed by his husband, Joaquim Pinto, with whom ha has made documentaries like Surfavela (1996), animation shorts like Porca Miséria (2007) and fiction films like Pathos Ethos Logos (2021).
