Originario di Porto, classe 1957, ha lavorato come tecnico del suono per importanti registi sia dentro che fuori dal Portogallo. Il suo primo film da regista, Uma pedra no bolso risale al 1988, mentre il secondo, Onde bate o sol, è datato 1989. Dalla fine degli Anni Novanta le regie dei suoi film (come E agora? Lembra-me, Rabo de Peixe, Pathos Ethos Logos) sono co-firmate dal partner e poi marito Nuno Leonel, e sono presentate in festival importanti come Berlino e Locarno.

Born in Porto in 1957, he worked as a sound engineer for important directors both inside and outside Portugal. In 1988 he made his first feature film, Tall Stories, and his second feature-length film, Where The Sun Beats, dates back to 1989. Since the end of the Nineties his directorial efforts (such as What Now? Remind Me, Fish Tail, Pathos Ethos Logos) are co-signed by his partner and then husband Nuno Leonel, and they were presented in important festivals like Berlin and Locarno.

Artista, grafico, animatore, tecnico del suono, regista, è nato nel 1969 e fin da giovanissimo ha lavorato in ambito musicale e cinematografico. La maggior parte dei suoi film sono co-firmati dal marito Joaquim Pinto, con cui ha realizzato, tra gli altri, documentari come Surfavela (1996), film d’animazione come Porca Miséria (2007) e film di finzione come Pathos Ethos Logos (2021).
