Alcuni materiali audiovisivi di repertorio ci mostrano i momenti salienti del conflitto israelo-palestinese prima degli anni Ottanta: gli scontri armati fra l’esercito israeliano e l’OLP, le condizioni di vita dei rifugiati palestinesi in Libano negli anni Sessanta e, proprio di quegli anni, le rovine lasciate dalla Guerra dei Sei Giorni. Sembra tanto materiale, ma è pochissimo rispetto a quello che c’era prima: nell’estate del 1982 l’esercito israeliano bombarda Beirut e distrugge l’archivio del Centro di Ricerca Palestinese. Gli archivi che vediamo qui sono dei sopravvissuti.
Ma sono dei sopravvissuti feriti, come sembrano dire le tracce rosse di sangue che Kamal Aljafari diffonde tra le immagini, a volte a evocare l’idea della censura, a volte come accento espressionistico: sono le ferite dell’intero popolo palestinese, asportato della sua stessa memoria, condannato a vivere la storia del suo quotidiano come una storia di perenne morte. A Fidai Film è l’orrore della storia, ed è una storia dell’orrore.

Some audiovisual archives show us key moments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before the 1980s: the armed clashes between the Israeli army and the PLO, the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon in the 1960s, and, precisely from those years, the ruins left by the Six-Day War. It seems like a lot of material, but it's very little compared to what was there before: in the summer of 1982, the Israeli army bombed Beirut and destroyed the archives of the Palestinian Research Center. The archives we see here are survivors themselves.
But they are wounded survivors, as the red traces of blood that Kamal Aljafari spreads through the images seem to indicate, sometimes evoking the idea of ​​censorship, sometimes as an expressionistic accent: they are the wounds of the entire Palestinian people, stripped of their very memory, condemned to live the history of their daily lives as a story of perpetual death. A Fidai Film is the horror of history, and it is a horror story.
