Colin è un ragazzo timido, si esibisce con il padre in un coro a cappella nel pub locale e sogna l’amore. Ray è un motociclista bello e tenebroso, quanto di più lontano si possa immaginare dal cantante introverso, ma anche lui è alla ricerca di qualcosa: un compagno da sottomettere, come gli altri biker gay del suo gruppo. Le regole del gioco sono chiare e accettate da entrambi: la relazione BDSM che si instaura tra i due vedrà Ray nel ruolo del dominatore e Colin in quello del sottomesso, ma questa dialettica riserverà a entrambi non poche sorprese, fino a costruire un’inconsueta storia d’amore nello stesso tempo tenera ed eccitante, esplicita e divertente. Tratto dal romanzo Box Hill di Adam Mars-Jones, premiato a Cannes 2025 per la miglior sceneggiatura nella sezione “Un certain regard”, l’opera prima di Harry Lighton racconta un’educazione sentimentale parlando di potere, di norma e trasgressione, decostruendo convenzioni e stereotipi e aprendosi alle infinite possibilità dell’amore. Una commedia romantica contemporanea, audace e chapliniana.

Colin is a shy guy who performs with his father in an a cappella choir at the local pub and dreams of love. Ray is a handsome, brooding biker, as far removed from the introverted singer as you can imagine, but he too is looking for something: a partner to dominate, like the other gay bikers in his group. The rules of the game are clear and accepted by both: the BDSM relationship that develops between the two will see Ray in the role of the dominator and Colin in that of the submissive, but this dynamic will hold many surprises for both, leading to an unusual love story that is at once tender and exciting, explicit and entertaining. Based on Adam Mars-Jones' novel Box Hill, which won the award for best screenplay in the “Un Certain Regard” section at Cannes 2025, Harry Lighton's debut film tells a sentimental education story about power, norms, and transgression, deconstructing conventions and stereotypes and opening up to the infinite possibilities of love. A contemporary, daring, Chaplin-esque romantic comedy.

Sceneggiatore e regista britannico, nato nel 1992 e laureato in letteratura inglese a Oxford, vive a Londra. Il suo cortometraggio d’esordio, Sunday Morning Coming Down del 2016, è stato selezionato in festival riconosciuti da Academy/BAFTA in tutto il mondo e candidato all’Iris Prize 2017 come miglior cortometraggio britannico. Nel 2017 ha co-scritto e diretto il cortometraggio Wren Boys, poi candidato come miglior cortometraggio britannico ai BAFTA del 2018. È stato anche candidato al BIFA, ha vinto il premio come miglior cortometraggio del Regno Unito allo UK Film Festival e ha esordito negli Stati Uniti al Sundance Film Festival. Negli ultimi anni è stato aiuto regia di Oliver Hermanus per Living, regista di seconda unità per la serie Sky/AMC Mary & George e ha sceneggiato un film biografico su Alexander McQueen che uscirà a breve. Pillion è il suo esordio nel lungometraggio ed è stato presentato a Cannes nel 2025.

British screenwriter and director, born in 1992 and graduated in English literature from Oxford, he lives in London. His debut short film, Sunday Morning Coming Down (2016), was selected for Academy/BAFTA-recognized festivals around the world and nominated for the 2017 Iris Prize for best British short film. In 2017, he co-wrote and directed the short film Wren Boys, which was nominated for Best British Short Film at the 2018 BAFTAs. It was also nominated for a BIFA, won the award for Best UK Short Film at the UK Film Festival, and made its US debut at the Sundance Film Festival. In recent years, he has been assistant director to Oliver Hermanus on Living, second unit director on the Sky/AMC series Mary & George, and has written a biopic about Alexander McQueen, which will be released shortly. Pillion is his feature film debut and was presented at Cannes in 2025.
