Se c’è una persona con cui dovrebbe essere possibile essere assolutamente se stessi quella è la propria madre. Pol Merchan affronta dunque il viaggio che lo riporta da lei, in un tentativo di riappacificazione e di comprensione reciproca. E il viaggio si traduce in un caleidoscopio di duplici possibilità, evocate dal perenne split screen: riusciranno i due a riconciliarsi? A capirsi? È possibile che al fisico viaggio di Pol, che ha raggiunto la madre, si attagli anche il viaggio che la madre deve fare attraverso i dubbi fino all’accettazione? Il viaggio è comunque un evento trasformativo, e il film di Pol Merchan ne esplora traiettorie e potenziali deviazioni con grande sensibilità.

If there's one person with whom it should be possible to be absolutely sincere, that’s one's mother. Pol Merchan therefore embarks on the journey that brings him back to her, in an attempt at reconciliation and mutual understanding. And the journey translates into a kaleidoscope of dual possibilities, evoked by the constant split screen: will the two be able to reconcile? Understand each other? Is it possible that Pol's physical journey, which has reached his mother, also parallels that journey her mother must make through doubts aiming the acceptance? The journey is, in any case, a transformative event, and Pol Merchan's film explores its trajectories and potential deviations with great sensitivity.

Artista e regista, curatore per l’Xposed Queer Film Festival e membro del comitato di selezione della Berlinale. Laureato all’Accademia di Belle Arti, con un Master in Art in Context, realizza lavori che esplorano l’intersezione fra storiografia, autobiografia, narrativa e documentario. Le sue opere sono state esposte a livello internazionale in istituzioni artistiche e festival cinematografici, tra cui il MoMA, il Museo Reina Sofía, il Centre d'Art La Panera, il Centre d'Art La Capella, il Rotterdam Film Festival, il Dok Leipzig, Hot Docs, l'Anthology Film Archives e l'Ann Arbor Film Festival. Il suo film Pirate Boys (2018) è stato candidato al Lichter Art Award e El Jardín de los Faunos (2022) ha ricevuto una nomination al Kassel Documentary and Video Film Festival.

He is an artist and filmmaker, curator at the Xposed Queer Film Festival and is a member of the Berlinale selection committee. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Art in Context, his work explores the intersection of historiography, autobiography, fiction, and documentary. His works have been exhibited internationally at art institutions and film festivals, including the MoMA, Museo Reina Sofía, Centre d’Art La Panera, Centre d’Art La Capella, Rotterdam Film Festival, Dok Leipzig, Hot Docs, Anthology Film Archives and the Ann Arbor Film Festival. His film Pirate Boys (2018) was nominated for the Lichter Art Award and El Jardín de los Faunos (2022) received a nomination at the Kassel Documentary and Video Film Festival.
