Nell’Inghilterra del 1605 e della caccia alle streghe, la giovane Evelyn è indirizzata dal padre, pastore protestante, verso un matrimonio combinato con un giovane uomo di buona famiglia. È però innamorata dall’umile Mary, con cui si incontra lontane da occhi indiscreti. È una vita destinata al segreto, perché la scoperta della verità da parte della comunità del villaggio potrebbe avere tragiche conseguenze.
Sullo sfondo opprimente di un mondo chiuso, scuro, asfissiato dal bigottismo moralista della religione, la storia di Evelyn (la leggendaria Bella Ramsay direttamente da Il trono di spade) è emblematica del desiderio passionale della libertà anche dove meno ci si aspetterebbe di trovarlo, e della rabbia che può scaturire dalla castrazione di quella stessa libertà. Tutto in un’affascinante fotografia al lume di candela – o, purtroppo, di rogo.

England, 1605: during the witch hunts era, young Evelyn's father, a Protestant pastor, steers her toward an arranged marriage with a young man from a good family. However, she falls in love with the humble Mary, whom she meets away from indiscreet eyes. It's a life doomed to secrecy, because the village community's discovery of the truth could have tragic consequences.
Set against the oppressive backdrop of a closed, dark world, suffocated by the moralistic bigotry of religion, the story of Evelyn (the legendary Bella Ramsay from Game of Thrones) is emblematic of the passionate desire for freedom even where one would least expect to find it, and of the rage that can arise from the castration of that very freedom. All this in a captivating cinematography by candlelight – or, sadly, by stake.

Nasce a Liverpool, scrive e dirige per il cinema, la tv e il mondo dei videoclip. Fa parte dell’Independent Talent Group e sta realizzando il suo primo lungometraggio. I suoi lavori precedenti esplorano il tema dei ruoli di genere e quello della pressione sociale all’interno di contesti pericolosi per la libertà; esplora personaggi non-binary, costruendone la complessità in relazione alle più ampie difficoltà dell’essere umano nel presente. Dopo il diploma nel corso di Directing Fiction della NFTS (National Film and Television School), e una Channel 4 Scholar, ha realizzato Requiem (2021) come film di diploma, che ha vinto come Best Postgraduate Drama ai Royal Television Society Student Awards 2022, oltre alla selezione in numerosi e prestigiosi festival britannici.

Born in Liverpool, they write and direct for film, television, and music videos. They are part of the Independent Talent Group and are currently making their first feature film. Their previous works explore gender roles and social pressure within contexts that threaten freedom; they explore non-binary characters, building their complexity in relation to the broader difficulties of human existence in the present. After graduating from the NFTS Directing Fiction course, and a Channel 4 Scholar, they made Requiem (2021) as her graduation film, which won Best Postgraduate Drama at the 2022 Royal Television Society Student Awards, as well as being selected at numerous prestigious UK festivals.
