È un freddo pomeriggio d’inverno. António e Jota sono tornati dal fronte e vogliono esplorare degli antichi bagni termali romani. Si immergono nelle vasche fra le rovine, e denudandosi in uno spazio misterioso, nebbioso, altro, tra presente e passato, tra realtà e immaginazione, finiscono per confessarsi cose che non avrebbero mai pensato di potersi dire.
Il film di Gabriel Azorín è un viaggio ipnotico e quasi fantasy in una terra della sincerità che la realtà quotidiana non sembra poter garantire. Interrogando costantemente lo spettatore sulla possibile direzione dei dialoghi, sulle sorprese di battute inaspettate, il film riesce a trasformare il sentimento (d’amore, d’amicizia) in un insondabile mistero. Se esiste un incrocio impossibile fra il videogioco Age of Empires e il cinema di Andrej Tarkovskij, allora è questo qui.

It's a cold winter afternoon. António and Jota have returned from the front and want to explore ancient Roman baths. They immerse themselves in the pools among the ruins and, laying themselves bare in a mysterious, fog-shrouded space suspended between past and present, reality and imagination, they end up confessing things they never thought they could say to each other.
Gabriel Azorín's film is a hypnotic, almost fantasy-like journey into a realm of sincerity that everyday reality seems unable to offer. By constantly keeping the viewer guessing about where the dialogue might lead, and through the surprise of unexpected turns, the film transforms feeling (whether love or friendship) into an unfathomable mystery. If there is an impossible crossover between the videogame Age of Empires and the cinema of Andrei Tarkovsky, this is it.

Nato a Hellín, Spagna nel 1981, si è laureato in Regia all’ECAM (la scuola di cinema madrilena) e ha svolto un Master alla Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola di San Sebastián. Tra i suoi cortometraggi e mediometraggi, presentati in molti festival fra cui a quello di San Sebastián, al FICUNAM, al Porto/Post/Doc, si segnalano Los galgos (2011), Los mutantes (2016) e El ruido del universo (2022). È membro del collettivo artistico lacasinegra, e ha lavorato anche in lavori di altri registi come Azor (2021) di Andreas Fontana e Ella i jo (2020) di Jaume Claret Muxart.

Born in Hellín, Spain, in 1981, he graduated in Film Directing from ECAM (the Madrid Film School) and completed a Master’s degree at the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola in San Sebastián. Among his short and medium-length films, presented at numerous festivals including San Sebastián, FICUNAM, and Porto/Post/Doc, notable works include Greyhounds (2011), Los mutantes (2016) and El ruido del universo (2022). He is a member of the artistic collective lacasinegra and has also worked on projects by other directors such as Azor (2021) by Andreas Fontana and Her and I (2020) by Jaume Claret Muxart.
