Vi dice qualcosa il nome di Agustín Gómez Arcos? Forse no, ma dovrebbe. È uno scrittore spagnolo che raggiunse un enorme successo nella letteratura francese negli anni Settanta, mentre il suo nome rimaneva proibito nel suo stesso paese. Sei volte finalista al premio Goncourt, le sue opere, tradotte in più di dodici lingue, affrontano temi come la memoria democratica e l’identità.
Esplorare vita e opere di Arcos vuol dire accoglierne la preziosa eredità, e cioè la riflessione profonda che ha portato sulla storia recente della Spagna attraverso i silenzi, i racconti perduti, il ruolo della cultura e della memoria. Questo documentario, attraverso alcune interviste a personalità di rilievo come Pedro Almodóvar e Marisa Paredes, è il megafono per una voce che, oggi più che mai, andrebbe ricordata.

Does the name Agustín Gómez Arcos ring a bell? Perhaps not, but it should. He is a Spanish writer who achieved great success in French literature in the 1970s, while his name remained banned in his own country. Six times a finalist for the Goncourt Prize, his works, that was translated into more than twelve languages, address themes such as democratic memory and identity.
Exploring Arcos’s life and work means embracing his precious legacy, namely the profound reflection he brought to Spain’s recent history through silences, lost narratives and the role of culture and memory. This documentary, through interviews with prominent figures including Pedro Almodóvar and Marisa Paredes, serves as a megaphone for a voice that, more than ever, deserves to be remembered.

Laureata in Storia dell’Arte con un Master in Gestione Culturale, è una documentarista candidata ai Premi Goya per A las mujeres de España. María Lejárraga (2022). Ha ricevuto, tra gli altri riconoscimenti, il Premio RTVA alla Miglior Cineasta dell’Andalusia al Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva, il Premio ALMA del Sindacato degli Sceneggiatori di Spagna per la Miglior Sceneggiatura di Documentario, la Biznaga de Plata Mujeres en Escena per il Miglior Lungometraggio al Festival de Málaga, il Premio Carmen dell’Accademia del Cinema dell’Andalusia per il Miglior Documentario e otto premi ASECAN del Cinema Andaluso. È stata presidente dell’AAMMA (Associazione Andalusa delle Donne nei Media Audiovisivi) ed è editorialista per eldiario.es. Un hombre libre (2024) è il suo quarto lungometraggio.

With a degree in Art History and a Master’s in Cultural Management, she is a documentary filmmaker who was nominated for the Goya Awards for To Spanish Women. María Lejárraga (2022). Among other distinctions, she has received the RTVA Award for Best Andalusian Filmmaker at the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, the ALMA Award from the Screenwriters’ Guild of Spain for Best Documentary Screenplay, the Silver Biznaga “Mujeres en Escena” for Best Feature Film at the Málaga Film Festival, the Carmen Award from the Andalusian Film Academy for Best Documentary, and eight ASECAN awards from Andalusian Cinema. She has served as president of AAMMA (Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media) and is a columnist for eldiario.es. A Free Man (2024) is her fourth feature film.
