Dopo l’improvvisa apparizione di piante, alberi e fiori mai visti, in città si verifica una serie di misteriosi eventi di cui Camelia e Nala tentano di rintracciare l’origine. L’irruzione dell’inaspettato nel quotidiano e la conseguente deflagrazione dello smarrimento costruiscono una riflessione che intreccia questione ecologica e questione sociopolitica, ridefinendo la relazione tra il familiare e il naturale. Queste presenze vegetali, affiorate come corpi estranei dentro lo spazio urbano, incarnano un perturbante capace di incrinare l’ordine consueto delle cose, esattamente come la guerra che disarticola lo status quo, o come gli eventi meteorologici inattesi che sconvolgono gli equilibri naturali che credevamo acquisiti. Muovendosi tra trasformazione politica, inquietudine ecologica e immaginazione magica, il film fa della libertà artistica uno spazio in cui il reale può deformarsi e l’immaginario fiorire.

After the sudden appearance of never-before-seen plants, trees, and flowers, a series of mysterious events takes place in the city, whose or origin Camelia and Nala attempt to trace. The irruption of the unexpected into everyday life, and the ensuing eruption of disorientation, give shape to a reflection that intertwines ecological and socio-political questions, redefining the relationship between the familiar and the natural. These vegetal presences, emerging like foreign bodies within the urban space, embody an uncanny force capable of unsettling the customary order of things, just as war disarticulates the status quo, or unexpected weather events disrupt the natural balances we had taken for granted. Moving between political transformation, ecological unease, and magical imagination, the film turns artistic freedom into a space where reality can be deformed and the imaginary allowed to bloom.

Filmmaker e film programmer. Attraverso la realizzazione di film, la curatela, la ricerca e la scrittura, esplora le molteplici relazioni tra immagine, testo, voce e suono. Tra il 2018 e il 2023 ha lavorato presso la Metropolis Cinema Association, dove ha sviluppato il progetto Cinematheque Beirut. Fa parte della redazione della rivista cinematografica Hors Champ, con sede a Montréal, ed è membro del collettivo artistico The Camelia Committee. Insegna inoltre programmazione cinematografica a Beirut. The Secret Garden ha vinto il premio come miglior film nella sezione “Gli occhi sulla città” della 48esima edizione del festival Laceno d’Oro.

Filmmaker and film programmer. She explores the multiple relationships between image, text, voice, and sound, through filmmaking, curating, research and writing. Between 2018 and 2023, she worked at Metropolis Cinema Association where she developed the Cinematheque Beirut project. She is part of the editorial team of the Montreal-based film journal Hors Champ and a member of the artist collective The Camelia Committee. She also teaches film programming in Beirut. The Secret Garden won the award for Best Film in the “Eyes on the City” section at the 48th edition of the Laceno d’Oro Film Festival.
