In un imprecisato quartiere di Vancouver, in Canada, il tecnico di set cinematografici Turner entra in crisi con la fidanzata, l’artista Brooklyn, quando al cellulare comincia a scorrere commenti e poesie incel (“involuntary celibate”) su Reddit e 4chan. Tra i due si rompe la comunicazione, e Turner comincia a credere che sia il mondo (femminile, ma non solo) a complottare contro di lui. In un altro quartiere di Vancouver (o forse lo stesso), la sex worker trans Michaela Sinclair detta Traps tira a campare come può, divisa fra il lavoro, l’amicizia con Adeline (che forse vuole detransizionare) e la relazione tossica col violento Christian.
Il primo film del racconto epico e corale di Louise Weard è una delle più grandi sorprese del cinema queer contemporaneo: grezzo, ruvido, sincero, racconta dei privilegi e dei rischi del vivere in comunità, e della necessità di trovare la giusta misura per amarsi e per evitare di lasciarsi andare.

In an unspecified neighborhood in Vancouver, Canada, film set technician Turner has a falling out with his girlfriend, the artist Brooklyn, when he begins to scroll his phone through incel ("involuntary celibacy") comments and poems on Reddit and 4chan. Communication between the two breaks down, and Turner begins to believe that the world (female, but not only) is conspiring against him. In another Vancouver neighborhood (or perhaps the same one), trans sex worker Michaela Sinclair, aka Traps, scrapes by as best as she can, torn between her job, her friendship with Adeline (who perhaps wants to detransition) and her toxic relationship with the abusive Christian.
The first film in Louise Weard's epic, ensemble story is one of the greatest surprises in contemporary queer cinema: raw, rough, sincere, it explores the privileges and risks of living in community, and the need to find the right balance between self-love and self-absorption.

Nata nel 1994 e cresciuta a Calgary e Saskatoon, in Canada, è regista e sceneggiatrice, laureata in Semiotica del Cinema. Ha fatto esperienza nel team effetti speciali dei film di Ryan Nicholson, e contestualmente ha prodotto e realizzato, anche con l’ausilio di Dionne Copland, il suo primo cortometraggio Computer Hearts (2015), diventato un piccolo film di culto nella comunità online di appassionati di cinema underground. Realizza anche i corti S.I.D.S. (2014) e Chasing Rewind (2016), oltre che la produzione di alcuni titoli tra cui Cold Wind Blowing (2022) di Dionne Copland e The Serpent’s Skin (2025) di Alice Maio Mackay. La sua Castration Movie Anthology, iniziata nel 2024, è tutt’ora in lavorazione; i primi capitoli sono stati presentati in vari festival fra cui Frameline, BFI Flare e Scottish Queer Film Festival. Il Sicilia Queer 2026 le dedica la sua prima retrospettiva europea.

Born in 1994 and raised in Calgary and Saskatoon, Canada, she is a director and screenwriter, with a degree in Film Semiotics. She gained experience in the special effects team of Ryan Nicholson's films, and at the same time produced and directed, also with the help of Dionne Copland, her first short film Computer Hearts (2015), which became a small cult film in the online community of underground cinema enthusiasts. She also made the shorts S.I.D.S. (2014) and Chasing Rewind (2016), as well as producing several titles including Cold Wind Blowing (2022) by Dionne Copland and The Serpent's Skin (2025) by Alice Maio Mackay. Her Castration Movie Anthology, started in 2024, is still in progress; the first chapters have been presented at various festivals including Frameline, BFI Flare and the Scottish Queer Film Festival. Sicilia Queer 2026 is dedicating its first European retrospective to her work.
