L'ingegnere portoghese Sérgio va in auto fino in Guinea-Bissau, ex colonia portoghese, per fare una perizia territoriale e vedere se sono soddisfatti i prerequisiti per la costruzione di una strada che avrebbe però effetti violenti e inquinanti sul territorio. Gli viene detto che deve anche sondare la reazione degli abitanti locali, ma lui va anche più a fondo di così: si unisce al gruppo di Guilherme e di Daria, facendo amicizia e forse qualcosa di più. Il problema è che girano voci sulla misteriosa morte del suo predecessore italiano, Leonardo, e il luogo diventa un cocktail di minaccia e di fascino.
Un grande mistero dunque, quello che Pedro Pinho tesse in modo appassionato nel film, come una danza ipnotica intorno a personaggi dal carisma unico e a dilemmi sui residui del colonialismo e sul rapporto fra Nord e Sud del mondo. Un’opera titanica sul privilegio e sui peccati dell’Europa.

The Portuguese engineer Sérgio drives to Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony, to carry out a territorial assessment and determine whether the prerequisites are met for the construction of a road - one that would, however, have violent and polluting effects on the area.
