Durante le elezioni presidenziali degli Stati Uniti nel 1992, nel pieno della crisi dell’AIDS, l’artista Zoe Leonard scrive I Want A President, una celebre poesia-manifesto che incarna lo spirito dell’attivismo queer dell’epoca, immaginando utopicamente altre forme di governo, altr* presidenti. Nel 2024, H·Alix Sanyas e la collettiva Bye Bye Binary riprendono il testo di Leonard e lo attualizzano, riscrivendone alcune parti e traducendolo in Acadam, una versione post-binaria del francese da loro creata. La poesia di Leonard, materia politica ancora viva, viene contaminata da nuove urgenze e rivendicazioni che appartengono al nostro tempo. Da un palcoscenico, nove persone non binarie danno vita a Je veux yn présidol: voci animate da una rabbia insolente, o spezzate dal pianto, disegnano bagliori di un futuro possibile, un grido di resistenza collettivo, che riverbera, nella ripetizione, tra loro e su chi guarda.

During the 1992 US presidential election, at the height of the AIDS crisis, artist Zoe Leonard wrote I Want A President, a celebrated manifesto-poem that embodies the spirit of queer activism of the time, utopianly imagining other forms of government, other presidents. In 2024, H Alix Sanyas and the collective Bye Bye Binary revisited Leonard's text and updated it, rewriting parts and translating it into Acadam, a post-binary version of French they created. Leonard's poetry, still a living political material, is contaminated by new urgencies and demands that pertain to our time. From a stage, nine non-binary people bring Je veux yn présidol to life: voices animated by insolent rage, or broken by tears, paint glimpses of a possible future, a collective cry of resistance, which reverberates, through repetition, among themselves and on those who watch.
