Non un semplice biopic su Sally Gearhart, carismatica attivista lesbica radicale, autrice ed accademica, ma un film su vite, lotte e desideri che hanno attraversato la storia degli anni Settanta e Ottanta negli Stati Uniti e che ancora troppo poco vengono raccontate. Sally è stata una donna coinvolgente, rivoluzionaria e a volte contraddittoria; autrice di The Wanderground, opera fantasy che ha ispirato una moltitudine di donne a immaginare come un altro mondo fosse possibile; alleata di Harvey Milk nell’opposizione pubblica alla Briggs Initiative, proposta volta ad impedire agli omosessuali di ricoprire incarichi accademici. La sua presenza in questa lotta, a differenza del suo rinomato collega, è stata del tutto rimossa dalla memoria collettiva. Un film che rilancia un più che attuale dibattito su femminismo, separatismo, teoria queer, ma anche sulla simbiotica relazione tra i movimenti per le lotte sociali e le loro portavoci.

More than just a biopic about Sally Gearhart, the charismatic radical lesbian activist, author, and academic, but a film about lives, struggles and desires that ran through the history of the 1970s and 1980s in the United States and that are still far too rarely told. Sally was a captivating, revolutionary, and at times contradictory woman; the author of The Wanderground, a fantasy novel that inspired countless women to imagine how another world was possible; an ally of Harvey Milk in the public opposition to the Briggs Initiative, a proposal aimed at preventing homosexuals from holding academic positions. Her presence in this struggle, unlike that of her more widely known colleague, has been entirely erased from collective memory. This film revives a highly relevant debate on feminism, separatism, queer theory, as well as on the symbiotic relationship between social movements and their spokespeople.
