«Ti prendi cura di te?», chiedono gli Altri. Viene omesso che l’unica cura accettata passi per forza dalle istituzioni, filtrata da sguardi colonizzatori e patologizzanti. In Me Cuido, il gruppo Las Indetectables costruisce nuovi immaginari di cura, dove salute è anche rifiuto delle narrazioni dominanti sul sex working e sull’HIV, nella fuga da categorie pregiudiziali ed errate. Commissionato da Visual AIDS per il programma TRANSMISSIONS, che esplora l’impatto dell’AIDS fuori dall’asse occidentalcentrico, Me Cuido rifrange le esperienze del virus in un caleidoscopio linguistico intraducibile, all’interno di un’iconografia cilena popolata da performer come Hija de Perra e Pedro Lemebel. Il manifesto travesti e sieropositivo si anima attraverso la voce dell’artista travesti Noelia le Shalá e la sua chiamata a prendersi cura di sé disconoscendo la marcatura di «infetta».

“Do you take care of yourself?” ask the Others. What goes unspoken is that the only kind of care deemed acceptable must necessarily pass through institutions—filtered through colonizing and pathologizing gazes. In Me Cuido, the collective Las Indetectables constructs new imaginaries of care, where health is rejection of dominant narratives around sex work and HIV; in the escape from prejudicial and wrong categories. Commissioned by Visual AIDS for the TRANSMISSIONS program, which explores the impact of the AIDS beyond the Western-centric axis, Me Cuido refracts the experience of the virus through an untranslatable linguistic kaleidoscope, within a Chilean iconography inhabited by performers such as Hija de Perra and Pedro Lemebel. This travesti and HIV-positive manifesto lives through the voice of the travesti artist Noelia le Shalá and her call to care for oneself by rejecting the label of “infected.”
