Germania 1968. Ruby e Martin sono due adolescenti che vivono con sofferenza il contesto sociale costrittivo che li circonda. La scuola è un luogo dove i loro sogni e le loro aspirazioni sembrano annegare nella convenzionalità e nel conformismo di un’istituzione poco attenta alle esigenze dei ragazzi. Anche le rispettive famiglie, che non accettano il loro rapporto sentimentale, appaiono come luoghi di nevrosi e ipocrisie. L’unica alternativa è la fuga verso una libertà che li porterà a confrontarsi con la durezza della vita del riformatorio. Von jetzt an kein zurück è un film che racconta la tensione spontanea e costante verso la libertà e verso l’affermazione di se stessi, la ribellione giovanile e la voglia di sottrarsi alle norme imposte dall’alto. Riguarda con occhio critico alla storia della seconda metà del novecento, a quella società ancora impegnata a fare i conti con il suo recente passato (la guerra su tutto) e con la necessità di trovare nuovi orizzonti sociali e culturali.
Germany 1968. Ruby and Martin, two teenagers, have a hard time in the social context that surrounds them. The school is a place where their dreams and aspirations seem to drown in the conventionality and conformism of an institution not very mindful of the students' needs. Even their families, that don't accept their love relationship, seem to be places of neurosis and hypocrisy. Their only alternative is to escape towards a freedom which will lead them to face the hardness of juvenile hall. Rough Road ahead is a film about the spontaneous and constant tension towards freedom and self-determination, about teenage rebellion and about the wish to escape the rules imposed from on high. It examines critically the history of the second half of the twentieth century and the society still dealing with its recent past (with the war more than anything) and with the necessity of finding new social and cultural developments.

Nato in Austria nel 1966 risiede attualmente a Berlino. Ha studiato alla National German Film School di Berlino (DFFB). Ha al suo attivo dieci cortometraggi tra cui Seasick on solid ground (1995) e Tear WORKS (2008). Tra i lungometraggi diretti di cui è anche sceneggiatore ricordiamo K. a F. ka – fragment (2002), Our America (2005) e Silent Resident (2008). Nel 1998 e nel 2005 ha vinto il Premio Carl Mayer e il premio speciale della giuria al IFF Sochi.
Born in 1966 in Austria, he currently lives in Berlin. He studied at the National German Film School in Berlin (DFFB). He already realized ten shorts including Seasick on solid ground (1995) and Tear WORKS (2008). Among the feature films he directed and of which he is also screenwriter it's worth mentioning K. a F. ka – fragment (2002), Our America (2005) and Silent Resident (2008). In 1998 and in 2005 he won the Carl Mayer Prize and the special prize from the Jury at the IFF Sochi.
