Già insegnante, critico dei Cahiers du cinéma e produttore indipendente, oltre che, occasionalmente, attore, esordì all’inizio degli anni Sessanta in più generi con originale realismo e finezza nell’analisi dei sentimenti. Tra i suoi film: Femmes, femmes (1974); Corps à coeur (1979); Encore/Once more (1987); Zone franche (1996); À vot’ bon coeur (2004); Dis-moi (2006). Il suo cinema è stato un punto di riferimento costante per registi come Truffaut, Godard, Pasolini.

Former teacher, critic of the Cahiers du cinéma, independent producer, and, occasionally, actor, he made his debut in the early Sixties in multiple genres with original realism and subtlety in the analysis of feelings. Among his films: Femmes, femmes (1974) Corps à coeur (1979), Encore / Once More (1987); Zones (1996), À vot'bon coeur (2004) Dis-moi (2006). His cinema has been a constant point of reference for directors such as Truffaut, Godard, Pasolini.
