Elderly father and mother live in a chaotic apartment full of books and junk in Paris. He wants to write a screenplay entitled Psyché; she begins to show more and more irrefutable signs of senile dementia. The son wants to find a solution for the mother, while the father shows more and more impatience and detachment. In a perennial split-screen, separated by a waterproof and deforming membrane, the protagonist couple of the Gaspar Noé’s movie begins a challenge against time, space and reality, and is destined to be defeated. The world is now only books, movies and entire memories of a lifetime together, but maybe those are succumbing to the indefinite chaos of the world too. A story of love and death.

Director, screenwriter, editor and cinematographer, he was born in Buenos Aires in 1963 but has lived in France since 1976, where he attended the Louis-Lumière school in Paris. He is an exponent of what James Quandt calls New French Extremity, a movement that brings together authors such as Fabrice du Welz, Philippe Grandrieux, Marina de Van and others on the basis of some similarities in the anti-narrative, violent and terrorist intentions of their mise en scène. After some shorts and the medium-length film Carne (1991), he made his debut at the Cannes Critics’ Week in 1998 with I Stand Alone (1998). Since then, each of his films, from Irréversible (2022) to Vortex (2021), has been premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, including competition, Out of Competition and Directors’ Fortnight sections. His films were screened all over the world in festivals such as Sitges, New York, Istanbul, Fantasporto, Locarno and San Sebastian.
