Pierre Primetens è nato il 22 aprile 1974, tre giorni prima della Rivoluzione dei garofani che mette fine alla dittatura portoghese. Ha trascorso i primi anni della sua infanzia a Chaville, non lontano da Versailles, ed ha effettuato regolarmente viaggi di famiglia in Portogallo, fino alla morte della madre. Poi la sua vita prende un'altra svolta. I ricordi si affastellano e le foto della sua infanzia e della sua famiglia vanno perdute o distrutte. Ripercorrere e capire gli eventi che hanno segnato la sua biografia e determinato il suo essere diventa per il regista una tappa fondamentale per restare in vita. Decide quindi di raccontare la sua storia prendendo in prestito le immagini di altri.
Indagando le possibilità del film di montaggio d’archivio, Primetens realizza una sinfonia intima e graffiante con cui riesce a mettersi a nudo senza mostrarsi mai davvero, alludendo, ammiccando, evocando altro pur rimanendo sempre fuoricampo, tra le immagini ma mai nascosto. Mai lo schietto e il subliminale sono mai state così tanto facce della stessa medaglia.

Pierre Primetens was born on 22 April 1974, three days before the Carnation Revolution which put an end to the Portuguese dictatorship. He spent the first years of his childhood in Chaville, not far from Versailles and regularly took family trips to Portugal, until the death of his mother. Then his life takes another turn. Memories pile up, and photos of his childhood and his family get lost or destroyed. Retracing and understanding the events that marked his biography and determined his being become a fundamental step for him to survive. Consequently, he decides to tell his story by borrowing the images of others.
Investigating the possibilities of archive montage film, Primetens creates an intimate and scratchy symphony with which he manages to lay himself bare without ever really showing himself, alluding, winking, evoking something else while always remaining off-screen, among the images but never hidden. Never have the frankness and the subliminal been so much sides of the same coin.
