Un’esplorazione del corpo transgender e non-binary colto e rappresentato attraverso il mordançage, un processo fotografico del XIX secolo che ricorre all’utilizzo di sostanze chimiche aggressive in grado di alterare la patina delle foto, sottoponendole a un processo di lenta e graduale trasformazione.
In questo film di Mia Felić, il supporto fotografico e il corpo umano diventano un unico, inscindibile medium. Lo sfaldarsi epidermico della loro superficie svela, infatti, la nascita di nuove forme di vita e nuovi modi d’essere. Il corpo in transizione assume qui la protoplasmaticità tipica degli organismi unicellulari: stampato sulla carta fotografica, il corpo/medium galleggia – proprio come le amebe – in un liquido mortifero e contemporaneamente vitale, sperimentando una onnipotenzialità che gli consente di compiere mutamenti metamorfici improvvisi e di passare da una condizione a un’altra, da un genere a un altro, evolvendosi, stadio dopo stadio, sino a fissarsi nella forma ritenuta più adatta.

An exploration of the transgender and non-binary body caught and represented through the mordançage, a photographic process of the Nineteenth century that consists in aggressive chemicals capable of altering the silver gelatine prints, causing them to undergo a process of slow and gradual transformation.
In this film by Mia Felić, the photographic support and the human body become a unique, inseparable medium. The epidermal disintegration of their surface reveals, indeed, the birth of new forms of life and new ways of being. The body in transition assumes here the protoplasticity typical of unicellular organisms: printed on photographic paper, the body/medium floats - just like the amoebas - in both a deadly and vital liquid, experimenting with a transformability that allows it to make sudden metamorphic changes and to move from one condition to another, from one gender to another, evolving, stage after stage, until fixing in the form deemed most suitable.
