XVI secolo. Dopo un periodo trascorso all'estero nella Francia antartica, Jean Aurand trova rifugio come servitore nella casa del filosofo francese Michel de Montaigne, dove una serie di eventi fantastici cambia per sempre la vita dei due uomini.
In questa fantasia queer che evoca ricordi del primo Bertrand Mandico, di Perceval le Gallois di Eric Rohmer e di West Indies di Med Hondo, il regista brasiliano Bernardo Zanotta contrappone la brutalità dei colonizzatori alla sensualità del rapporto di Jean Aurand con gli indigeni. Possiamo solo sognare quale corso avrebbe preso la storia se l'approccio pacifista e non binario del servitore avesse prevalso sulla violenza coloniale.

16th century. After a period overseas in the Antarctic France, Jean Aurand finds refuge as a servant in the house of French philosopher Michel de Montaigne, where a series of fantastical events change the lives of these two men forever.
In this queer fantasy that conjures up memories of early Bertrand Mandico, Eric Rohmer's Perceval le Gallois and Med Hondo's West Indies, Brazilian filmmaker Bernardo Zanotta contrasts the brutality of the colonists with the sensuality of Jean Aurand's relationship with the natives. We can only dream of the course history would have taken if the servant's pacifist, non-binary approach had prevailed over colonial violence.

È regista e artista visivo. I suoi lavori sono stati esposti a livello internazionale in luoghi d'arte, cinema e festival, tra cui il British Film Institute, EYE Filmmuseum, FID Marseille, BAFICI, Rotterdam, Pesaro e Locarno, dove è stato premiato con il Pardino d'Argento per il suo film Heart of Hunger (2018). Oltre a progetti di corto e medio metraggio, sta attualmente sviluppando il suo primo lungometraggio.

He is a filmmaker and visual artist. His work has been exhibited internationally at art venues, cinemas, and festivals, including the British Film Institute, EYE Filmmuseum, FID Marseille, BAFICI, Rotterdam, Pesaro, and Locarno, where he was awarded the Pardino d'Argento for his film Heart of Hunger (2018). Alongside short and mid-length projects, he is currently developing his first feature film.
