La modella Cecília torna a casa sua a Recife per trascorrere il Natale con la religiosissima madre. Lì ritrova le amiche di sempre ma trova anche João, misterioso giovane figuro di cui forse si innamora. O è forse l’effetto di una strana pozione verde che lui le offre durante una festa?
In un’esplosione di cinema di genere, affrontata in un rarissimo equilibrio di eleganza e camp, il film di André Antônio si sviluppa come una recita drag fulminante e fulminata, riconfermando il Brasile come un paese di fecondissimo cinema queer. Il perturbante della mitologia biblica (in riferimento alla figura del titolo, Salomé) irrora gli spazi di un mondo coloratissimo ma contaminato, attraente ma autodistruttivo, in cui horror, fantasy, thriller e commedia hanno perso qualsiasi confine.

Model Cecília returns to her home in Recife to spend Christmas with her very religious mother. There she finds her old friends, but also finds João, a mysterious young man with whom she may fall in love. Or is it perhaps the effect of a strange green potion that he offers her during a party?
In an explosion of genre cinema, approached with a rare balance of elegance and camp, André Antônio’s film unfolds like a fulminating and fulminated drag performance, reconfirming Brazil as a country of very fertile queer cinema. The uncanny of biblical mythology (in reference to the title figure, Salomé) permeates the spaces of a colourful but contaminated world, attractive but self-destructive, in which horror, fantasy, thriller and comedy have lost all boundaries.

La città in cui è ambientato Salomé (2024), Recife, è anche la città dove è nato nel 1988. Dopo svariate esperienze da montatore su alcune produzioni brasiliane ha fondato, nel 2012, la casa di produzione indipendente Slurto & Deslumbramento (con Chico Lacerda, Fábio Ramalho e Rodrigo Almeida), con la quale ha realizzato i due cortometraggi Mama (2012) e Canto de Outono (2014), i due lungometraggi A Seita (2015) e Salomé, oltre che il mediometraggio Venus in Nykes (2021). I suoi film sono stati programmati in festival come il Göteborg Film Festival, l’Outfest di Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, il Chéries-Chéris, il Valdivia e il D’A Barcellona.

The city where Salomé (2024) is set, Recife, is also the city where he was born in 1988. After several experiences as an editor on some Brazilian productions, in 2012 he founded the independent production company Slurto & Deslumbramento (with Chico Lacerda, Fábio Ramalho and Rodrigo Almeida), with which he produced and realised the two short films Mama (2012) and Canto de Outono (2014), the two feature films A Seita (2015) and Salomé, as well as the medium-length film Venus in Nykes (2021). His films have been programmed at festivals such as the Göteborg Film Festival, the Los Angeles Outfest, Rio de Janeiro, Chéries-Chéri, Valdiva and D’A Barcelona.
