Simone balla da solo. Gli piace girovagare per i boschi del Friuli, vicino Trieste, ascoltando musica e guardando il suo riflesso nell’acqua. Crede di essere invisibile, o meglio, crede che “gli altri” non lo vedano per quello che davvero è, oltre i pregiudizi e gli stereotipi su chi è diverso. Lo vede però Said, un giovane ragazzo immigrato che fa capolino nel bosco. I due iniziano un viaggio verso il mondo reale parlando, conoscendosi, interpretandosi a vicenda.
Le lumache puoi toccarle, sfiorarle, giudicarle, ma loro continuano ad essere quello che sono: corpi autonomi, ermafroditi, diversi. Proseguono per la loro lenta strada. Simone e Said vogliono così essere “come le lumache”: il film di Margherita Panizon sembra dirci che potrà volerci tempo ma loro due troveranno il loro posto e smetteranno di essere invisibili, almeno agli occhi di loro stessi.

Simone dances alone. He likes to wander through the woods of Friuli, near Trieste, listening to music and looking at his reflection in the water. He believes he is invisible, or rather, he believes that “others” do not see him for what he really is, beyond the prejudices and stereotypes against who is different. However, Said sees him: he is a young immigrant boy who suddenly appears into the woods. The two begin a journey towards the real world by talking, getting to know each other, interpreting each other.
You can touch snails, brush them, judge them, but they continue to be what they are: autonomous bodies, hermaphrodites, different. They continue on their slow path. Simone and Said thus want to be “like snails”: Margherita Panizon’s film seems to tell us that it may take time but the two of them will find their place and will stop being invisible, at least in their own eyes.

Nata a Trieste nel 1989, si è formata in Cinema e Teatro Contemporaneo presso la University of Reading nel Regno Unito e ha frequentato l’Atelier del Cinema del Reale, FILMaP, a Napoli sotto la direzione artistica di Leonardo di Costanzo. Il suo primo documentario, Non può essere sempre estate, è stato presentato in anteprima internazionale nella sezione documentari della Festa del Cinema di Roma nel 2018. Segue la realizzazione di La vasca del capitone e Melarancholia. Nel 2022 il suo primo cortometraggio Come le lumache, viene selezionato alla Settimana Internazionale della Critica del Festival di Venezia. Attualmente sta sviluppando il suo primo lungometraggio Lo sconsegnato, finalista al Premio Solinas 2020. Parallelamente al lavoro di regista, esplora il mondo dell’arte contemporanea ed è attiva come fotografa.

Born in Trieste in 1989, she studied Contemporary Cinema and Theatre at the University of Reading (UK) and she attended the Atelier del Cinema del Reale, FILMaP, in Naples, under the artistic direction of Leonardo di Costanzo. Her first documentary, Non può essere sempre estate, had its international premiere in the documentary section of the Rome Film Fest in 2018. This was followed by the making of La Vasca del Capitone and Melarancholia. In 2022, her first short film Come le lumache was selected for the International Critics’ Week of the Venice Film Festival. She is currently developing her first feature film Lo sconsegnato, a finalist for the 2020 Solinas Prize. Alongside her work as a director, she explores the world of contemporary art and is active as a photographer.
