Oliver è una drag performer che mantiene la sua famiglia esibendosi nei bar gay di Manila. In compagnia di gigolò, papponi e altri performer, Oliver si guadagna da vivere creando illusioni sul palco. In un numero finale, esegue lo "Spiderman show", in cui arrotola cento metri di filo, se li infila nell'ano e ruota sulla pista da ballo creando un'unica, gigantesca ragnatela. Quest'azione audace assume un significato ancora più profondo perché il film è stato girato al culmine del regime militare sotto la dittatura di Ferdinand Marcos.

Oliver is a female impersonator who supports his family by performing in Manila’s gay bars. In the company of callboys, pimps and other female impersonators, Oliver makes a living by creating illusions on stage. In one final act, he performs the “Spiderman show,” where he rolls a hundred yards of thread, inserts them inside his ass, and spins on the dance floor to create one giant web. This audacious act is made more meaningful because the film was shot at the height of the military regime under the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Filmmaker, storico del cinema, professore al Philippines Film Institute, nasce nel 1959 e completa un Master in Cinema Studies alla New York University nel 1989. Nello stesso anno riceve un diploma in Cinema all'Atelier de Formation du Cinéma in Francia. Comincia a realizzare film a partire dagli anni Ottanta con il documentario Oliver (1983), e negli stessi anni è autore del primo dei suoi numerosi saggi, Short Film: Emergence of a New Philippine Cinema (1985). Ha ricevuto numerosissimi riconoscimenti in giro per il mondo (una delle Ten Oustanding Young Persons of the World in Giappone nel 1993, per dirne una) e nel 1999 ha fondato il Pink Film Festival, prima manifestazione di cinema gay e lesbico delle Filippine.

Filmmaker, film historian, and professor at the Philippines Film Institute, he was born in 1959 and completed a Master's in Cinema Studies at New York University in 1989. That same year, he received a diploma in Cinema from the Atelier de Formation du Cinéma in France. He began making films in the 1980s with the documentary Oliver (1983), and in the same years he wrote the first of his many essays, Short Film: Emergence of a New Philippine Cinema (1985). He has received numerous awards around the world (one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World in Japan in 1993, for example) and in 1999 he founded the Pink Film Festival, the first gay and lesbian film festival in the Philippines.
