È un regista filippino di cinema, televisione e spot pubblicitari, noto soprattutto per i lungometraggi Selda (2007) e Pauwi Na (2017). Fa parte della Philippine New Wave, definita “la più significativa ed entusiasmante avanguardia digitale del movimento alternativo” (Philippine New Wave, Movfest Publishings, 2010), emersa a metà degli anni 2000 e determinante nell’inaugurare una nuova era del cinema locale. La sua filmografia ha vinto premi e/o rappresentato il paese in festival cinematografici internazionali, tra cui Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Torino Film Festival e Shanghai International Film Festival. È stato presidente della Director’s Guild of the Philippines, cofondatore della Inter-Guild Alliance ed è attualmente Direttore Generale della Film Academy of the Philippines, un ente nazionale dedicato ai lavoratori del cinema e dell’audiovisivo.

He is a Filipino film, television and TV commercial director best known for the full-length films Selda (The Inmate, 2007) and Pauwi Na (Pedicab, 2017.) He is part of the Philippine New Wave’s "most significant, most exciting digital frontliners of the alternative movement" (Philippine New Wave, Movfest Publishings, 2010) which emerged during the mid 2000’s that helped usher a new era in local cinema. His collective filmography has won and/or represented the country in the main competition of international film festivals including Yamagata, Clermont-Ferrand, Rotterdam, Thessaloniki, Montreal, Busan, Torino and Shanghai. He was President of The Director’s Guild of the Philippines, co-founder of the Inter-Guild Alliance and is currently the Director General of the Film Academy of the Philippines, a national agency for film and audio-visual workers.
