«Per resistere al disprezzo di quei giorni, immaginavo spesso che il paese fosse un palcoscenico scintillante», così Janine decide di tornarci, di convertire di nuovo la periferia in spettacolo ai margini. All’arrivo di Janine insieme al compagno Pierre, l’ambiente muta il proprio centro. Le finestre sui cortili si spalancano sul suo corpo in movimento, oltre la città e oltre i generi, mentre il desiderio s’infiltra nelle fondamenta delle villette del paese.
Attraverso la lente dell’umorismo camp, Jan Eilhardt innesta video e foto d’archivio privato su un’opera dai rimandi fassbinderiani; immagina così la collisione della propria corporeità trans con uno spazio decentrato, dove il perturbante si rende miccia delle ossessioni del vicinato.

«To deal with all the disrespect, I used to… image the village as a shimmering stage», and so Janine decides to return there, to transform the suburbs once again into a spectacle on the edges. Upon Janine’s arrival with her partner Pierre, the environment shifts its center. The windows overlooking the courtyards swing wide open onto her moving body, beyond the city and beyond genders, while desire seeps into the foundations of the town’s little houses.
Through the lens of camp humor, Jan Eilhardt weaves private archival videos and photos into a work with Fassbinderian references; they thus imagine the collision of their own trans body with a decentralized space, where the uncanny becomes the spark for the neighborhood’s obsessions.

Ha studiato Film and Performance alla HFBK Hamburg, seguendo anche corsi con Marina Abramović, e ha svolto la mansione di assistente di Heiner Müller al Berliner Ensemble. I suoi film e progetti sperimentali sono stati proiettati in festival cinematografici internazionali, sale cinematografiche e musei. Il suo primo lungometraggio Scherbengericht è stato presentato in anteprima nel 2013 allo Slamdance Film Festival. Fremdenverführerin (2022), cortometraggio Super8 di ispirazione queer-attivista, è stato presentato in festival internazionali vincendo numerosi premi. Il lungometraggio Janine zieht aufs Land è stato presentato alla Berlinale nel 2025.

They studied Film and Performance at the HFBK Hamburg, including classes with Marina Abramović, and was an assistant to Heiner Müller at the Berliner Ensemble. Their films and experimental projects have screened in international film festivals, cinemas, and museums. Their feature debut Scherbengericht premiered in 2013 at the Slamdance Film Festival. Fremdenverführerin (2022), a queer-activist Super8 short film, was shown in international festivals and won many awards. The autobiographical film Janine Moves to the Country premiered at the Berlinale in 2025.
