Dal 2016 al 2021 Laurent Achard ha realizzato quattro ritratti di cineasti: Paul Vecchiali, Jean-Claude Brisseau, Jean-François Stévenin e Patricia Mazuy. Il quinto, quello di Leos Carax, non è mai stato completato.
Gaël Teicher ricorda Laurent Achard non soltanto attraverso gli scambi di messaggi che negli anni i due si sono scambiati, ma anche attraverso i ritratti che Achard ha dedicato ad altri registi: in un percorso fatto di rispecchiamenti, silenzi, rimbalzi, messe in scena di messe in scena, Teicher gira un film con la stessa delicatezza con cui si accende una candela, fa viaggiare lo sguardo negli spazi delle interviste di Achard e intanto sussurra il miracolo del cinema come testimonianza di un sentimento. “Quando consideriamo quanto la morte ci sia familiare, quanto sia completa la nostra ignoranza, e quanto sia stata sempre assente una via di fuga, dobbiamo ammettere che il segreto è ben custodito” (Vladimir Jankélévitch).

From 2016 to 2021, Laurent Achard made four portraits of filmmakers: Paul Vecchiali, Jean-Claude Brisseau, Jean-François Stévenin and Patricia Mazuy. The fifth, Leos Carax, was never completed.
Gaël Teicher’s remembrance of Laurent Achard is conveyed not only through the messages the two men exchanged over the years, but also through Achard’s portraits of other directors: along a path of reflections, silences, echoes, and stagings within stagings, Teicher makes a film with the same delicacy you’d use to light a candle, letting the gaze travel through the spaces of Achard’s interviews while whispering the miracle of cinema as a testimony of a feeling. “When we consider how familiar death is, how complete our ignorance is, and how there has never been any escape, we must admit that the secret is well kept” (Vladimir Jankélévitch).
