Gustavo Vinagre

Regista e documentarista, ha scritto e diretto oltre 14 cortometraggi e sei lungometraggi. Ha studiato Letteratura presso l’Università di San Paolo, in Brasile, e Cinema alla scuola EICTV di Cuba. Vanta una prolifica carriera di oltre dieci anni, con film noti per la loro vibrante dimensione queer e per l’approccio intimo all’immagine e al suono. Il pluripremiato Tres tigres tristes, suo primo lungometraggio di finzione, è stato presentato in anteprima al Forum della Berlinale nel 2022. I suoi film hanno ricevuto oltre cento premi e sono stati segnalati due volte dai Cahiers du Cinéma.

A filmmaker and documentarian who has written and directed over 14 shorts and six feature-length films. He studied literature at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and film at the EICTV school in Cuba. He holds a prolific career spanning over 10 years, with films that are known for their vibrant queerness and their intimate approach to image and sound. The award-winning Three Tidy Tigers Tied a Tie Tighter was his first fiction feature film and premiered at Berlinale Forum in 2022. His films have won more than 100 awards and have been featured twice in Cahiers du Cinéma.

Artista e direttore creativo brasiliano con base in Portogallo. Al centro del suo lavoro c’è la messa in discussione dell’immaginario collettivo che circonda i corpi non normativi, utilizzando il desiderio come strumento di decostruzione e resistenza. Nel cinema ha firmato la direzione artistica e i costumi di videoclip e film pluripremiati presentati in festival prestigiosi come Cannes, Berlino e Rotterdam; tra i suoi lavori più significativi figurano Kbela (2017) e Deus tem AIDS (2020), co-diretto da Vinagre.

At the core of his work lies the questioning of the collective imagination surrounding non-normative bodies, using desire as a tool for deconstruction and resistance. In cinema, he has signed the art direction and costume design of award-winning music videos and films screened at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale and Rotterdam; among his most substantial works are Kbela (2017) and Deus tem AIDS (2020) co-directed by Vinagre.
