Questa è la storia di due uomini che cercano una donna, anzi: è la storia di una donna che va alla ricerca di sé stessa (e di un’altra donna; e poi di altre due donne). In questa storia che, come un tesoro, contiene molte altre storie, la ricerca di sé e la ricerca dell’altro sono costantemente intrecciate, mentre vita sognata e vita vissuta non coincidono. Ma non è un film filosofico: è un film d’amore e d’avventura, dove l’esplorazione di una città della pampa argentina è solo un’occasione per scandagliare più a fondo nell’animo umano. La protagonista, interpretata da Laura Paredes, sembra ripartire da dove l’avevamo lasciata undici anni prima in Ostende, ma il mistero la avvolge in modo ancora più forte, fino a trasformare il film ricreando atmosfere lynchiane. Un romanzo visivo in cui perdersi, un’ode alla ricerca e alla bellezza, l’ultimo film di Laura Citarella, un capolavoro del cinema contemporaneo.

This is the story of two men searching for a woman, or rather: it is the story of a woman who goes in search of herself (and another woman; and then two other women). In this story that, like a treasure, contains many other stories, the search for self and the search for the other are constantly intertwined, while dreamed life and lived life do not coincide. But this is not a philosophical film: it is a film of love and adventure, where the exploration of a town in the Argentine pampas is just an opportunity to plumb deeper into the human soul. The protagonist, played by Laura Paredes, seems to pick up where we left her off eleven years earlier in Ostende, but here the mystery envelops her even more strongly, to the point of transforming the film by recreating Lynchian atmospheres. A visual novel in which to lose oneself, an ode to quest and beauty, Laura Citarella's latest film is a masterpiece of contemporary cinema.

Classe 1981, è una regista e produttrice argentina, nonché una delle autrici più interessanti del Nuovo cinema argentino. Ha conseguito un diploma in regia cinematografica presso la Universidad del Cine di Buenos Aires. È tra i fondatori – insieme a Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky e Agustín Mendilaharzu – della società di produzione El Pampero Cine. Nel 2011 dirige il suo primo lungometraggio, Ostende, cui segue La mujer de los perros (2015), co-diretto con Verónica Llinás. Nel 2019 co-dirige con Mercedes Halfon Las poetas visitan a Juana Bignozzi. Trenque Lauquen, il suo film più recente, è stato presentato nella sezione Orizzonti del festival di Venezia nel 2022. Ha prodotto, tra gli altri, film pluripremiati come Historias extraordinarias (2008) e La flor (2018) di Mariano Llinás, Castro (2009) ed El loro y el cisne (2013) di Alejo Moguillansky, El escarabajo de oro (2014) di Moguillansky e Fia-Stina Sandlund.

Born in 1981, she is an Argentine film director and producer, as well as one of the most notable authors of the "New Argentine Cinema movement”. She graduated as a film director from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. She is one of the founders – together with Mariano Llinás, Alejo Moguillansky and Agustín Mendilaharzu – of the production company El Pampero Cine. In 2011 she directed her first feature film, Ostende, which was followed by Dog Lady (2015), co-directed with Verónica Llinás. In 2019 she co-directs with Mercedes Halfon The Poets Visit Juana Bignozzi. Trenque Lauquen, her most recent film, was screened in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival in 2022. She has produced, among others, award-winning films such as Historias extraordinarias (2008) and La flor (2018) by Mariano Llinás, Castro (2009) and The Parrot and the Swan (2013) by Alejo Moguillansky, The Gold Bug (2014) by Moguillansky and Fia-Stina Sandlund.
