Nei parchi addomesticati delle grandi città esistono ancora luoghi in cui perdersi – selvaggi, brulicanti di una natura indomita. Spazi misteriosi, nascosti agli sguardi indiscreti e all’iper-visibilità. Su una curva di un grande lago, due amanti cercano un posto in cui stare insieme – l’una nell’abbraccio dell’altra. Una piccola barca alla deriva diventa un letto e un rifugio dai tremori.
Il Central Park di New York, in particolare l’area The Ramble, è stato un territorio fondamentale nelle narrazioni delle comunità LGBTIQ+, rifugio per il cruising e l’esplorazione sessuale. Con questo sfondo, Zeig ritrae l’erotismo dei corpi lesbici con una sensibilità rara. La sensualità emerge dalle pieghe dei corpi, senza la mediazione delle parole. Solo le note di un violoncello trasfigurano questa rêverie, sospesa tra veglia e sonno.

In the tamed parks of big cities, there are still places to get lost – wild, teeming with untamed nature. Mysterious spots, hidden from prying eyes and hypervisibility. On a bend of a large lake, two lovers seek a place to be together – one in the other’s embrace. A small drifting boat becomes a bed and a refuge from the tremors.
New York’s Central Park, especially The Ramble area, has been a key territory in the narratives of LGBTIQ+ communities, a refuge for cruising and sexual exploration. With this background, Zeig portrays the eroticism of lesbian bodies with a rarely seen sensitivity. Sensuality springs from the folds of the bodies, without the mediation of words. Only the notes of a cello transfigure this reverie, suspended between wakefulness and sleep.

Ha diretto e prodotto sette film, tra cui Central Park (1994), presentato in anteprima al Sundance Film Festival; The Girl (2001), basato su un racconto di Monique Wittig e presentato per la prima volta al Toronto Film Festival e alla Berlinale; Apache 8 (2011), trasmesso su PBS; Sister Jaguar’s Journey (2015); The Living Saint in Thailand (2019) e Firelighters: Fire Is Medicine (2024), anch’esso trasmesso su PBS. Attualmente è nella fase di post-produzione di un documentario su Monique Wittig, intitolato Wittig, Yes!.

She directed and produced seven films including Central Park (1994), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival; The Girl (2001), based on a story by Monique Wittig and presented for the first time at the Toronto and Berlin Film Festival; Apache 8 (2011), broadcast on PBS; Sister Jaguar’s Journey (2015); The Living Saint in Thailand (2019) and Firelighters: Fire Is Medicine (2024), broadcast on PBS as well. She is currently in the post-production phase on a documentary about Monique Wittig, titled Wittig, Yes!.
