Chris e Sarah condividono un appartamento con la loro cagnolina Jezebel. «Perché le mattine sono così difficili?», si chiede Chris, mentre Sarah le ricorda che deve trovare un lavoro. Immerse negli alti e bassi della vita domestica, escono per le strade di Manhattan a sbrigare alcune commissioni: prelevare contanti in banca, comprare pezzi per una riparazione domestica al negozio di ferramenta. In un momento ironicamente segnato dal mansplaining, il commesso dubita che possano farcela da sole. «Due donne insieme – scriveva Adrienne Rich – è un’impresa che nulla nella civiltà ha reso semplice».
Realizzato come progetto di scuola di cinema da Greta Schiller e Thomas Seid, Greta’s Girls è considerato uno dei primi cortometraggi indipendenti a esplorare la vita domestica delle lesbiche negli Stati Uniti. Il film è stato restaurato e preservato dalla UCLA Film & Television Archive in collaborazione con l’Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.

Chris and Sarah share an apartment with their dog Jezebel. «Why are mornings so hard? », Chris wonders, while Sarah reminds her she needs to find a job. Immersed in the ups and downs of domestic life, they head out into the streets of Manhattan to run errands: withdrawing cash from the bank, buying parts for a household repair at the hardware store. In a moment humorously marred by mansplaining, the clerk doubts they can do it themselves. «Two women together – wrote Adrienne Rich – is a work nothing in civilization has made simple».
Created as a film school project by Greta Schiller and Thomas Seid, Greta’s Girls is considered one of the first independent short films to explore the domestic lives of lesbians in the United States. It has been preserved by the UCLA Film & Television Archive in collaboration with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.

Tra le pioniere del cinema lesbico insieme a Barbara Hammer, nata nel 1954, è regista di un cinema attivista e militante che difende i diritti delle persone lgbt. Greetings from Washington, D.C. (1981), Before Stonewall (1984) and International Sweethearts of Rhythm (1986) sono alcuni esemplari di un cinema fortemente politico; il secondo titolo le valse anche due premi Emmy.

Among the pioneers of lesbian cinema alongside Barbara Hammer, born in 1954, she is a filmmaker of activist and militant cinema that defends LGBTQ rights. Greetings from Washington, D.C.
