L’utente LonerWolf58 frequenta assiduamente forum incel, popolati da uomini soli che attribuiscono alle donne le loro disgrazie. Finché è in vita è solo uno dei tanti che diffonde notizie false e misoginia sulla rete, ma dopo la sua morte i suoi contenuti diventano virali, e per questo un’intelligenza artificiale senziente si prefigge l’obiettivo di eliminare LonerWolf58 una volta per tutte. Ma chi è davvero questa entità che si rivolge direttamente al pubblico e dichiara guerra all’utente incel? A sentirla parlare sembrerebbe la personificazione di Internet, una rete in grado di riflettere su sé stessa, sulle dinamiche di potere messe in atto negli spazi digitali. Mette in crisi la gerarchia che solitamente vuole il web sottomesso all’utente.
È con questi presupposti che il regista Loïc Hobi visualizza un mondo popolato da immagini lacerate, scomposte, in decadenza, ben in linea con la volontà di eliminare i lati più oscuri di internet.

The user LonerWolf58 is a regular in incel forums, populated by lonely men who blame women for their misfortunes. While he is alive, he is just one among many spreading fake news and misogyny online; but after his death, his content goes viral, prompting a sentient artificial intelligence to set out to eliminate LonerWolf58 once and for all. But who is this entity that addresses the audience directly and declares war on the incel user? From the way it speaks, it seems like the personification of the Internet itself - a network capable of reflecting on its own nature and on the power dynamics at play within digital spaces. It challenges the usual hierarchy that places the web in a subordinate position to the user.
It is on these premises that director Loïc Hobi envisions a world populated by torn, fragmented, decaying images, in keeping with the desire to eradicate the darkest sides of the Internet.

Nato a Neuchâtel nel 1997, di origini franco-svizzere, frequenta l’École de la Cité di Luc Besson a Saint-Denis, in Francia, dove realizza il suo corto di diploma L’homme jetée (2019). Ottiene grande successo grazie al successivo The Life Underground che viene presentato nel concorso nazionale al festival di Locarno nel 2021 e viene poi candidato al Premio del cinema svizzero come miglior cortometraggio dell’anno. Una parte della sua produzione è composta da film queer che esplorano il mondo di Internet e delle identità digitali, tra questi Face to Face in the Night (2019), Les nouveaux Dieux (2020), Alien Sexting (2020), ALEXX196 & la plage de sable rose (2023), anch’esso presentato al festival di Locarno. I suoi lavori sono stati selezionati in numerosi festival internazionali, tra cui IDFA, Hot Docs e Sitges. Attualmente sta lavorando al suo primo lungometraggio.

Born in Neuchâtel in 1997, he is of Franco-Swiss origins. He attended Luc Besson’s École de la Cité in Saint-Denis, France, where he made his graduation short film L’homme jetée (2019). He achieved great success with his subsequent film The Life Underground, which was presented in the national competition at the Locarno Film Festival in 2021 and was later nominated for the Swiss Film Award for Best Short Film of the Year. A large part of his work is made of queer films that explore the world of the Internet and digital identities, including Face to Face in the Night (2019), Les nouveaux Dieux (2020), Alien Sexting (2020), and ALEXX196 & la plage de sable rose (2023), which was also presented at the Locarno Film Festival. His works have been selected for numerous international festivals, including IDFA, Hot Docs, and Sitges. He is currently developing his first feature film.
