Due femministe conosciutesi durante l'Hirak – proteste algerine contro la candidatura per il quinto mandato del presidente Bouteflika che hanno avuto luogo nel 2019-2020, note altresì come “primavera algerina” o “rivoluzione del sorriso” per via della sua forte matrice pacifista – rievocano i momenti vissuti insieme e ricontestualizzano le tappe che hanno condotto alla creazione della "piazza femminista" nel corso delle manifestazioni svoltesi ad Algeri. Perché c’è un passato di resistenza femminista che esiste nel tempo, che lo attraversa, e di cui bisogna fare tesoro, ma c’è soprattutto un presente in cui questi ideali devono sempre reincarnarsi, unendo persone che, prima di quel momento, non si erano mai davvero conosciute. Solo l’incontro permetterà di immaginare il futuro con il sorriso sospeso di chi non può permettersi di cedere alla disperazione.

Two feminists who met during the Hirak – Algerian protests against Bouteflika's candidacy for a fifth presidential term that took place in 2019-2020, also known as the "Algerian Spring" or the "Revolution of Smiles" because of its strong pacifist roots – recall the moments they experienced together and recontextualize the stages that led to the creation of the "feminist square" during the demonstrations held in Algiers. For there is a past of feminist resistance that exists in time, which runs through it, and that must be treasured, but there is above all a present in which these ideals must always be reincarnated, uniting people who, before that moment, had never really known each other. Only the meeting will make it possible to imagine the future with the suspended smile of those who cannot afford to give in to despair.
