An insistent and destabilising stream of words enunciates the reality of AIDS as a health and cultural crisis, touching on issues such as access to care and treatment, stigma, sensationalism in the media, scapegoating, western colonialist rhetoric, and sex work. The sound works on the level of personal experience, with audio fragments by Derek Jarman and David Wojnarowicz.
This work by experimental filmmaker yann beauvais, which provides a plurality of viewpoints on the epidemic, is a powerful cinematographic pamphlet, or, in the author's own words, a ciné-tract, which recaptures the urgency and immediacy of militant 1968s cinema. Despite having produced this film in 1997, a year after the advent of the first HAART antiretroviral therapies, beauvais works from the conviction that the AIDS crisis is far from over.
