«To remember Nino Gennaro thirty years after his death and on the occasion of the award named after him by the Sicilia Queer Filmfest, which is being awarded to me this year, I wanted to collect in this book a selection of his letters sent to me, written during the period of his illness between 1991 and 1995. Rather than keeping them locked away in a drawer, I felt the need to share them with those who want to read them, because I believe that, in addition to being a living testimony of a deep friendship united by a theatrical project that was just beginning to develop in those years, they reveal a human and poetic depth of rare and lucid intensity; a voice from the late twentieth century that is missed today more than ever. The book benefits from an illuminating preface by Lina Prosa; a text of mine written in the form of a letter addressed to Gennaro, the precious contributions of Silvio Benedetto, Giuseppe Cutino, Massimo Milani and Andrea Inzerillo; as well as a series of photographs by Letizia Battaglia, Riccardo Liberati, Achille Le Pera, Gianluca Benedetti, some of mine and others" (Massimo Verdastro).

È autore di numerosi altri volumi, tradotti in molte lingue, tra cui: Global Sex (2001), Queer Wars (con Jonathan Symons, 2016), Unrequited Love: Diary of an Accidental Activist (2019), God Save the Queen: The Strange Persistence of Monarchies (2021) e il romanzo Death in the Sauna (2023).

Published in the United States in 1971, the volume Homosexual. Oppression and Liberation by Dennis Altman, as Lorenzo Bernini states in the introduction, is "one of the first books linked to the nascent gay liberation movements that constitute, together with feminist, lesbian, butch, trans*, Black, Chicano and European and American working class thought, the roots of queer theories in a borderland between activism and university". Translated in 1974 by Arcana Editrice and edited by Alfredo Cohen, it marked an entire generation of Italian activists, and then remained out of print for a long time. An attentive and participating observer of the first actions of the Gay Liberation Front after the Stonewall uprising, Altman draws on the writings of James Baldwin, Allen Ginsberg and Kate Millett, as well as on his own personal experience, and he recognizes an engine of transformation in the differences that are present in the movement, with a genuinely critical thought that’s inspired by the revolutionary "Freudo-Marxism" of Herbert Marcuse. Dennis Altman is currently Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at La Trobe University in Melbourne and the founder of the Pride Foundation and the Australian Queer Archives. He is the author of numerous other books, translated into many languages, including: Global Sex (2001), Queer Wars (with Jonathan Symons, 2016), Unrequited Love: Diary of an Accidental Activist (2019), God Save the Queen: The Strange Persistence of Monarchies (2021) and the novel Death in the Sauna (2023).

Natura, animali, bambini, Beethoven.
Lembra-me.

A street child lives in solitude. His life is a reiteration of desperation that does not even allow him to die: the cycle continues, and he simply disappears.
Drawing on Nuno Leonel’s experiences as an animator in the Nineties (Santa Maria, Schizophrenia), the two directors find a synthesis of their observations in the Brazil of favelas and street kids. When the little protagonist wakes up from a nightmare, he glances around him and realizes that he is still in a nightmare, he does not know whether to close his eyes or leave them

A child on the street begs for money. He scrapes together what little he has and keeps it in the pockets of his baggy pants. He argues with another girl. To accompany these images, eloquent of the condition of street kids in the favelos of Rio de Janeiro, the interview with the activist Yvonne Bezerra de Mello, who tells anthropological data and facts of an outcast humanity dominated by the law of the strongest and by power relations.
Pinto and Leonel make an “unforeseen” film during their Brazilian experience, and through the words of Yvonne Bezera de Mello they materialize in the mind of the viewer a mapping of the sexual and violent behaviors of an indigent humanity, in which the boundaries of a privileged perception of things do not exist. The dystopia is here and now, the guerrilla filmmaking style of the two directors allows us to touch it.

Armando and Beatriz’s hairs are as red as the fire that they dream to extinguish as a job: once they have obtained the official role of firefighters, the two twins, brother and sister, feel mature enough to deal with new adventures and new objectives. But Armando reveals to be still childish while he starts a flirt with a neighbour, and Beatriz starts to suffer from a strange kind of tinnitus.
Made as an episode devoted to Fire inside a series of film about the four elements of nature for the Portuguese television (the other three movies are directed by João César Monteiro, João Botelho and João Mário Grilo), it is the third feature film by Joaquim Pinto and it confirms, despite of the presence of a different screenwriter, his strong sensitivity for the investigation of removed desires and for the portrait of the immature feelings of young human beings.

Covid-19 infiltrated the cracks of social inequities to amplify their power; it fragmented faces and filtered bodies, leaving untouched the prejudices that surrounded them. Ping, philosophy student, experiences this in Germany, a place that seems to confine him to the image of a plague-bearer from China, where the first case of the virus was recorded. Through a dating app, however, he manages to find the human and sexual contact he was seeking: safe, in-person and remote, no risk—except that of receiving a sudden Hegelian epiphany…
Wegen Hegel plays with the contours of colonization and exoticization carried out by the West, immersing itself in the strobe lights of potential escapes from these dynamics. Because everything that is rational is (hyper)real.

Among seahorses the males undergo pregnancy. Transgender pregnant parents specifically call themselves “seahorses” as a metaphor. The documentary Seahorse Parents finds a very delicate way to tell a theme that’s very little known even inside the LGBTQ+ community, through the voices of four protagonists, transgender parents that think always in present and future tense.
Through a frontal portrait strategy, Miriam Guttmann shapes the movie onto four testimonies without wrapping someone else’s film around it. The result is that the work becomes a pure megaphone of four voices that the world ignores, pretends not to see, and that instead face pregnancy, despite all difficulties, with smiles and hopes.

He measures his desire with the clothes he wants to wear, the make-up he wants do to and the drawings in which he can imagine himself again.
The drawing is also the one by Daniele Ambrosini, who traces a small intimate world with the camera, observing the hands of his characters, empathetically penetrating Lorenzo’s life, and exploring the spaces in which Lorenzo feels safe, places that are always closed and without escape points. At least until the sight of a sunset inspires his definitive drawing.

“Do you take care of yourself?” ask the Others. What goes unspoken is that the only kind of care deemed acceptable must necessarily pass through institutions—filtered through colonizing and pathologizing gazes. In Me Cuido, the collective Las Indetectables constructs new imaginaries of care, where health is rejection of dominant narratives around sex work and HIV; in the escape from prejudicial and wrong categories. Commissioned by Visual AIDS for the TRANSMISSIONS program, which explores the impact of the AIDS beyond the Western-centric axis, Me Cuido refracts the experience of the virus through an untranslatable linguistic kaleidoscope, within a Chilean iconography inhabited by performers such as Hija de Perra and Pedro Lemebel. This travesti and HIV-positive manifesto lives through the voice of the travesti artist Noelia le Shalá and her call to care for oneself by rejecting the label of “infected.”

Two limping souls in their sixties collide – literally – on a street corner. What begins as a clumsy accident becomes a quiet spark. Over coffee, they linger. They talk. And just like that, an unlikely intimacy begins to bloom.
The Slug and the Snail traces the gentle unfurling of a connection born not of urgency, but of presence of two bodies long ignored by the tempo of the world, finding rhythm in each other. Anne Benhaïem’s film is a tender ode to queer aging, to liminality, to love that doesn't need to shout to be heard. With stripped-down direction and performances that pulse with lived-in truth, the film crafts a space of radical softness. It speaks to loneliness without pity, to affection without spectacle. It reminds us that desire doesn’t fade, it just changes shape. Benhaïem herself plays one half of the duo, bringing a raw, honest magnetism that makes the story feel lived rather than performed. This is cinema as whisper, as mirror, as gentle rebellion.

A whisper said in the dark and the confession of a dream can start a journey, the one of a tender love story. And there is nothing more cosmic than tenderness, seems to say the film by Anaïs Kaboré, which associates the touch of two intimacies that discover each other with the spectacle of a panoramic shot, the thrill of a sequence shot, the overflowing energy of a stroboscopic light.
Twenty-seven minutes of pure synesthesia, in which the eye caresses the landscapes, the hands discover trust where there was mystery, and the love between the two protagonists finds itself, even in small daily gestures, facing the spectacle of time that passes and that makes you grow.

The body in which Fakir Musafar, pseudonym of Roland Loomis, lived in was a body to be deformed, pierced, knotted and untied, pulled and harpooned. A pioneering figure of queer body art, founder of the controversial “Modern Primitive” movement, his work has crossed the world of photography, the underground, the Church of Satan and flower power. For him, redefining the physical boundaries of the body was a spiritual point of arrival. Behind the appearance of a classic and linear documentary that crosses the history of the USA in the second half of the twentieth century, the effort of Angelo Madsen reveals an in-depth work of recovery of archive materials that, like Fakir Musafar’s body, intertwine, fold, rewrite themselves as prostheses of the artist’s performative work, becoming its fluid extremity. The viewer’s gaze is placed at a political and aesthetic crossroads, where distance and empathy, estrangement and incarnation, right and wrong, cease to be poles of opposite charge.

His work for Amazon and his health conditions do not allow him great resources and great energy, but he tries to gather them to tour apartments and meet people who could rent him a room.
What Edu finds, in the hilarious comedy by Leandro Goddinho and Paulo Menezes, is an album of human figurines that replicate, in the simple dialectic of a conversation, some power dynamics (socially, sexually), other setbacks for a character who in Berlin spins like a top aimlessly, a not-so-subtle metaphor for a Europe of false promises.

With an empathetic and calm attitude, and wise discretion, Augustine Caille breaks down cliché and creates, in just a few minutes, a precious portrait of a small community.

Starting from the geography of specific atmospheres and places, Iannetti draws a map of relationships and emotions.
